Default should I buy a wide?

hello

A friend is selling me a new forum recon 153 wide (256mm). My foot size is 9 so it's stupid to buy a wide board but the deal is pretty sweet, and I was wondering if the extra width will cost me in riding quality.

Having ridden too wide a board while renting one time, I can say it's a PITA, especially if you're a noob like me. I couldn't initiate a turn fast enough and kept on sliding off the runs.

way too wide in my opinion.
I've an 11 foot/boot, and ride a midwide(25.4ww iirc @ 159).

It may be better if you're constantly in powder? Anyone else wanna chime in on that?
