K2 associated with Ride

So, I heard K2 was associated with Ride in someway. As in, like Ride is a division of K2 or something. Truth?

Yes. Ride "sold out" to a ski company, but that happened a long time ago.

Naw, I refuse to deal with Ride/K2 because of that homophobic banner stunt they pulled a few years back at a trade show. Any company that expressly plays into fears of racism, homophobia, etc as means of marketing is not a company I want anything to do with.

"Ride, a snowboard manufacture, has apologized for a homophobic trade show banner that mocked its competitor, and has suspended the employees who created it. Reports say the banner and stickers bearing the same message were seen at snow industry trade shows in Montreal in February and also in Las Vegas.

After news of the banner appeared in the New York Post and was spread through the Internet, Ride (owned by K2) received e-mails of complaint at its website. By late Tuesday, the company had posted an apology in a small link on its home page. While not describing the incident in detail, it is clear that the apology is directed at the anti-gay banner. Ride would like to clarify that this statement was in no way authorized, and we were as surprised and offended by its existence as the individuals we have recently heard from."

That last part is bullshit. A few random people at a trade show don't "go maverick" and come up with something like that. Companies actually plan for trade shows, and the decisions have to filter through graphic designers and management. They made some kids who worked the booth at the show take the fall for choices made by people higher up the chain. Lame.
