I've been a casual rider for roughly 3-4 years.

I can't even tell the difference between the burton mission and union atlas. (they were ridden in separate seasons in my defense!) I'm not sure if i'm just bad or not....or just not skilled enough to know the differences.

I think people really just look too hard into small details but then again....i did the same thing when I bought my gear.

If I were you, I would just go with the cartels. From what everyone says they are a do everything binding! And they are cheaper than the malavitas.

The Raygun will not "ride funny switch"...unless you are terrible at riding switch.
Nor will the Happy Hour not perform well on the mountain.

The Raygun is just set back a touch, its a twin shape with set back, Alkasquawlik is right, it will not ride funny switch. The HH has more tech and is a much better board (on paper) in my opinion. Both are a step up from the Burtons that Sportchek offers, pick either one, get it and enjoy.

sounds like i'm in a similar situation would you guys opt for Happy hour over the Turbo dream? I'm leaning toward the happy hour due to reviews about speed and carving.

Icemonkey, if you are from toronto, please check out sanction snow. Shop that specializes in snowboarding gear. Plenty of options and very helpful staff. Picked up a proto hd and 2013/2014 malavitas. Just waiting for my boots to come in.
