new board maintenance

i have a gnu 11 up (no metal on the tail and tips). i plan to take it out this weekend. what do i need to do to it to get it ready? i got everything i need to wax it, but i'm not sure what i should do as far as detuning and or anything else. i've heard just use a gummi stone on the tail and tip but i cant find any in my area, and i doubt i can get one online before this weekend. do i need to just find a way to get one or is there something else i can do? all i see at the local hardware stores are files and sharpening stones (ski shops dont have anything)

The hardware shop should have ceramic stones (look for fine grit).

Just go into a hardware store and ask where their metal/granite/whatever polishing stuff is.

The finer the better, it should feel really smooth.
