New iron: smokes when wax is taken away

I was using a household iron with tinfoil over it for a while, but recently picked up a dakine iron for $35.

I noticed that while it does not smoke when the bar of wax is touching it or when I am moving it along the surface of the board, after 10 seconds of sitting alone by itself it will smoke. I can only assume its burning off the layer of wax left on the iron?

Is that normal?

Also I'm having trouble doing smooth passes with it on the board unlike my old iron. It will grab every now and then when I am going over the board slowly. Any tips for that?

Thanks

Little wisps of smoke rising from the iron when it's not on the board is absolutely nothing to worry about.

THERE ARE SPECIFIC REASONS AS TO WHY I AM MORE LOCAL THAN YOU

Yeah thats exactly what it is. I just kept reading about "DONT LET IT SMOKE WHAT-SO-EVER!".

The iron is set to 115-125c
