what are the effects of having a larger binding compared to the boot size? i'm giving away my cartels (large) to someone wearing a size 8.5 boot. will he have problems riding?

If the straps size small enough it should be fine. I don't like bindings that are too big because your foot can shift side to side in the baseplate, but it doesn't affect riding too much as long as the straps aren't too long.
