If you don't need one, don't ride one? Someone with a small boot that is used to a normal width board might find a wide board awkward, so that could certainly be construed as a decrease in performance. However when the larger footed rider puts on a normal width board and gets so much toe/heel drag that they can't ride normally without busting their face open every time they try to carve, that would also be a decrease in performance. Match your equipment to your body type and riding style, pay no attention to the blanket "wide boards suck" statements.

I think you made the right choice, but your opinion is really the only one that matters. Ride the new one, then if you can find a normal width board of similar length to ride & compare to the new one you should have a better idea of exactly what the performance differences are for you.

I wear a 12/13 boot and own nothing but wide boards. Normal width boards I've ridden have been comparably quicker from edge to edge and that can be fun, but the overhang killed me when making turns at any kind of speed.

if by "decreased performance" you mean spending less time laying face down in the snow because of toe and heel overhand caught the snow then sent you flying through the air, then yes, it decreases performance.

i where a size twelve boot and rock a wide board also. i think on rails if anything its easier cause theres more board underneath you. id be willing to ride with anyone who says wide boards are shit compared to regular, just to prove them wrong. its the person not the board.
