Northwave boots, caliber are they soft? - vs. decade, legend, domain?
Hi guys. :D
Will be super quick with this one:
Setup: Proto HD 157, burton genesis, northwave calibre boots 2011/2012
60.243% freeride, 39.757% freestyle
Still intermediate i'd say but learning fast.
My question is... would you consider the northwave calibre to be a soft boot? It's rated 5/10 on their website and is one of the 2-3 softer boots.
I feel like I'm lacking a bit of response on carving and am often cranking my boots down super tight and my bindings the same in an effort to get more response on a steep/long run.
Anyone recommend either the decade (8/10 stiffness) or the Legend (7/10)?
And any tips on which might be best for my riding preferences would be must appreciated. I've heard several people mention on here that "if you're going for northwave boots you should be getting at least the decade", also implying that the decades are higher quality.
I'm ruling out the prophecy and the domain at 9 & 10 stiffness as feel my freestyle (attempts) would suffer.

Alternatively, if the boots aren't a problem and i'm unlikely to notice a difference going stiffer, tell me to shut up and stop trying to spend money :giggle:
Oh and after several hours in different years of boot trying, I can't beat northwave on comfort for my feet.... hence my loyalty
i started with the legends but i now have last year's decade.
the decade is indeed a bit stiffer and more responsive, but not by a large margin.
they are indeed better built, and thanks to the window flex system tend to pack out much less.
in my opinion they will be a huge upgrade from your current ones, and money aside i would get the decade without any doubt.
What are the decades like in parks/freestyle? Guess I could always loosen them off a little.
My current ones still have plenty of life left in them so I feel bad about getting new ones. But if the decades are better for advancing/enjoying then I'm very tempted.
i think they are a BIG upgrade from your current ones: it is just up to you to decide if you want to do it now or when yours are done!
Going away for 5-days in a few weeks so could be a good idea to get them before then.
Any difference you know between this years and last years model?
if you find a good deal on last year's model (and like the color) i would say go for it, then!
