K2 Maysis boot sizing ideas?

I'm interested in getting a pair of 09-10 K2 Maysis boots but am having trouble getting a size 8 boot (size I normally wear). The LBS has a pair in size 8.5 however that I tried on which the length feels good but width is kinda looser than I'm used to). Now assuming that the shell and liner sizes are the same between the size 8 and 8.5 boots (as I've been told...K2 doesn't do 1 to 1 sizing), is the only difference between the two sizes is because of different thicknesses of the footbed? If so, can I just stick a generic foam foot pad (like I use for normal walking shoes)to decrease the volume and make these boots fit like a size 8? Another option would be to get a custom Superfeet Kork footbed which is thicker than the stock footbed it comes with I suppose.

Does this reasoning make sense or am I missing something? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The shell may be the same size but he liner is different. A size 8 will have a size 8 liner, not an 8.5...it is not just a thicker footbed (that is a ski boot trick, not snowboard).
