Custom insoles - is it really designed to the boot?

I was told today that I should buy my new boots first before getting custom insoles done as it may not fit properly. I guess it makes sense but I also didn't think I would have to get new ones every time I get new boots (potentially)

If the new boots are similar to your old boots then the orthotics will probably fit.

Each boot has a slightly different footprint shape... when custom insole is made, it is trimmed to the shape of the that footprint. Usually, if the boots are not completely different sizes/shapes... the insole will fit in the new boot with minimal modification (you might have to trim like a quarter inch off the tip).

I haven't had a chance to use them but I had them done yesterday. There really wasn't anything custom done to the sole in terms of the boot just made sure it fit in. I guess we'll seen when I get other boots and want to try to re use
