Boots were killing my feet

Question for anyone who may have an answer or opinion. I went skiing the other day. Had a great time but pretty much the entire time my feet were killing me and throbbing me. I used rental equipment from our local ski rental shop, and I did pull my achilles tendon badly 15 years ago. So I guess what I am trying to figure out is if I was having this issue just because of an old injury (although usually doesn't bother me) Or does cheaper rental equipment sometimes cause this?
When I decide to buy my own gear I am planning on splurging when it comes to the boots because I dont want to deal with the pain. Are good boots really that much of a difference maker?

Yep. If you're going to ski go to a professional boot fitter and do it right the first time.

Boots do make the difference...be prepared to spend some coin, probably buy several pairs and get them modded and insoles and etc. In the long run it will be less expensive to find a real boot fitter that spends time in helping you find, fit and mod a pair of boots (it may take several visits)....i'd say $400-500 with tip to bootfitter is not unreasonable.
