Update 13-Nov-2012: This group buy is now closed. Order is in and money being paid. Can't wait to get the new boards!!! Stay tuned as I imagine once there is more exposure to these boards there may be more interest in another group buy again at a later date.

Please note the Kessler group buy is not happening. We are however trying to work out a group buy with several other companies. Oxess, Volkl and Virus. Page 4 is where the details begin to be hashed out regarding the new attempt at a group buy. Thanks everyone for their interest!

Original post:

Just getting the initial details at this point. The board will be various sizes of Kesslers "Ride" snowboard. The board is discussed in detail in the following thread:

http://www.snowboardingforum.com/equipment-reviews/47211-review-kessler-ride-168-ultimate-snowboard.html

Here's the link to the manufacturer.Kessler Ski & Snowboards

At this point I'm trying to gauge interest in a group buy. I don't know pricing or details yet but this will be by the same people that brought it last time for $650 including shipping. I'm hoping it will be close to the same price. This board retails for $1300+ in Canada and the US.

I'm in 100% as long as it's not over $700 or so. Who else is interested? At this point I just want to give him a number so he can get back to us with some firm details.

Here is the e-mail from the group buy guys... They are based in Quebec and I'm assuming the items would ship from Quebec to the US and Canada.

"Hi Aaron,

I asked Veronique to pass your request on to me. I am responsible for our Kessler account and we have just begun planning with them for the winter season. Inventory at Kessler is always limited as these are very special pieces that are imported.

I would love to get you guys set up with the Ride board if possible but it would help to know how many you would be looking for as I am not sure we will launch this on the site. For example, if we can only get our hands on 5, and you want 5, then we will just do it that way.

I am waiting on pricing and availability.

Best Regards"

I just e-mailed the iGet.it guys again, but I'm getting tired of waiting so I also just e-mailed Oxess, Virus and Volkl directly to see if they'll respond.

My bindings came in the other day so I need something to strap them into!

Here's my order of preference: Thoughts?

1) Virus Avalanche FLP AFT
2) Oxess Freeride
3) Volkl Coal XT

Wow, heard back from Virus quick! They'll give us 20% off the prices on their website. EU-160 shipping to get all boards to me. The exchange rate between the Euro and CAD/USD is about 0.78 right now, so that puts the boards at about this price (plus shipping).

Avalanche FLP AFT - $1132
Avalanche FLP - $1030
Avalanche FR Freeride - $771
Ultimate Freecarve - $1234

Now those prices include tax, and I'm not sure how it works with the VAT being 15% or so, and my local taxes are only 5% so I'm not sure if I could apply for a rebate?

At the moment the FLP AFT is sitting $200 lower than the Kessler Ride MSRP. I was really hoping for much lower than that as the price of admission... :dunno:

Lets see what the other manufacturers say, or maybe iGet.it can get a better deal?

I would not get my hopes up with the iGet.it guys. While they do have group-buys, their focus is not oin really saving money/offering low prices, but rather they are about carrying lifestyle products that people might not have access to or might not be aware of. Price is not really something they pay a lot of attention - in fact, plenty of the stuff they sell is more expensive than from many other (r)etailers. The Kessler deal last year was really a bit of aberration.

#53 ·
yep =)
with hardbooters => bigger crowd => more discounts => more people => more discounts and so on ;)))
I'm a hardbooter, but riding for 1 year only )

Freeride boards is less then 4 kilos. same for alpine, they got more tech inside, but they 1/3 or even 1/2 as wide.

#54 ·
Just realized it's the owner of Virus snowboards that responded to me! Pretty good that he's that involved with his business! If we start getting a Virus group buy together I think I'll start a new thread. I should probably kill this one now that the Kessler deal is over.

#57 ·
Thanks Donutz! Heard back from Virus and Oxess again and here's what they said...

Oxess said:
1 board CHF 1590.00
2 boards CHF 1430.00
3 boards CHF 1350.00
4 boards CHF 1270.00
5 boards CHF 1190.00
6 boards CHF 1110.00
up to 7 to 10 Boards CHF 1090.00

Early order, order until end of may and delivery and payment in fall, is a additional 10% discount

All prices are without delivery and VAT from your country
Virus said:
You can order different board, we will custom fit them to your weight and it will take around 2 to 3 weeks for delivery!

From the tax we can only cut 10% because we have a very high labor charge with custom declarations etc!

So you have a discount of 30% overall on the list price! It´s preseason price…. During the season no chance!
So the CHF to CAN/USD conversion makes the Oxess board over $1100 even if we buy 5. I think I'm out for that. The Virus will be a total of 30% off their listed prices, plus shipping. Puts it right on about $1000 for the FLP AFT, cheaper for the plain FLP, and cheaper again for the FR...

Unless I hear back from Volkl soon I suggest we turn this into a Virus group buy? :dunno: I'm in for the FLP AFT it looks like quite the stick! And the fact he'll custom make each one specific to our dimensions is excellent.

#58 ·
You're right. I'm out of oxess and vote for Virus too.

30% is nice, but i tink many of us will think hard of what to choose.
I'm 80% out of softboard, and maybe go for alpine..
have to find someone to sell my 4wd.

if you will mail virus can you confirm that discount works for alpines too?
and the deadline for orders =)

Alright finally more news (was away for the weekend at a wedding!):

All boards are included in this deal. Just take 30% off the website price. The minimum board order is 4 boards, so I doubt we'll have a problem with that. He didn't reply with a deadline to order, but I'd like to get it done sooner than later as it'll take 2-3 weeks to make the boards and then ship them out. How about a Nov 2nd deadline? He didn't reply with my shipping inquiry, he said it's 120 Euro for one board to Canada, or 160 combined for a whole bunch of them. Anybody know how much it is to ship a board within Canada/US?

For what it's worth, here are the prices of their freeride boards in Euro's including the 30% discount: (taken from virus) and then prices in USD beside. I started putting the Alpine board prices in there but that would take all day! They have a lot of board options...

Avalanche FL Freeride - 525€ - $680
Avalanche FLP - 700€ - $907
Avalanche FLP AFT - 770€ - $997
Ultimate Freecarve - 840€ - $1088

So TLN or maybe Dice, can somebody pass this on to the Alpine guys?

What I'd like to do is get a group around the Calgary area together, and we can all split on shipping (then I can drop off boards in Calgary and area). And if there's another group in the states, and another in Kazakhstan that works for me.

So whoever's going to pass this deal on to the hardbooters, PM me and I'll send you my e-mail address to pass on to the guys. I might buy my GF one of the base model Freeride boards as an xmas present, so I only need two more in Southern Alberta to get the deal myself and get the combined shipping.

Ok, i'd post a link to bomberonline and some russian forums.
I dont know yet if i will go for a this or not. I've recieved my custom donek incline, check it out here: link

I'm still thinking about what kind of board to take.

And you must be missed the names, FLP AFT is most pricey, and FR is cheapst of three. And you got it all wrong. Or i can really get AFT for 680?

#63 ·
BTW, where are another people here in topic?
It looks like poutanen and me still interested in a sick sticks =)
Yeah, anyone still listening on this thread? By the way TLN, I've got some people interested at work, and I've posted over on bomber online and getting some interest. So lets give it a few days but I think this is a go!

HELLO ALL YOU FREERIDERS! GET YOUR FREERIDE WEAPONS HERE!!! :D:D:D

#64 ·
I'm going to say I'm out at this point. As much as I'd like to pick one up, this just isn't the time for me to drop a grand on a board. Poutanen thanks for putting this together. If there is enough interest for a later order date, I would be interested in that, or even putting together another GB.

Another riders thoughts on the Avalanche FLP

Here's Ray from the hardbooter forum talking about the Avalanche FLP.

For sale: Virus Avalanche 162cm “FLP”

"I rode it in about 5” of pow and soft groomers. Very smooth and easy to control in the pow due to the lightweight, especially at high speeds.
Carving the groomers was totally effortless and fun, also at higher speeds! I like for all my freeride boards to be stable at high speeds and to also carve well on groomers, but unfortunately this FLP comes too close to my Virus "La Glisse" for what I use it, and, the fact that I am over packed for my flight back to Europe, I made the decision to let it go now."

This was a 162 that he owned, so it sounds like it doesn't need to be long to be comfortable in the powder. I'm looking at the 160 cm FLP AFT for my 165 lb fat ass... lol

Also interesting to note is the board he considered it closest to is the La Glisse which is a $1750 powder specific board.

Have any of you snowboard connoisseur's ridden this Palmer Channel Titanium?

It's like ten years old, 2002 I believe.

I'm contemplating getting one. I bought a used Palmer about 6 years ago & it ripped, I sold it last year & now I wish I hadn't.

Okay so three confirmed buyers including myself at the moment.

Nick K (Alberta)
Aaron P (Alberta) <-possibly buying two boards
Lamberto S (Cleveland)

Any other takers? No need to reply if you're out from this point on. Let me know if you're in and we'll go from there. Or send me an e-mail to matti_matrix at hotmail dot com... :D

I'm in Van, but I found the Palmer for really cheap. $200 with bindings.
So I'm gonna buy 2 & hopefully flip the other one so mine works out to be free.

I can't afford the outrageous prices you guys are lookin' @.

They are brand spankin' new, with a 10 year old sticker price of $750. Apparently these are sought after boards, they stopped making them in 2004.

I know there are @ least 3 if anyone wanted the other one, speak up.

There isn't a whole lot of info on this board out there on the interwebs but what you can find are people that are blown away by it.

You're on bomber aren't you? Do a little homework, these things are bad ass:D

They are all the 2002 blue & orange ones. There is however 1 other one, same model just 1 year older 2001. If they are I identical boards just different years I'm probably:dunno: going to get the older 2001 model.
IMO the older one looks way better, plus it's got flames.

If you can afford those other fancy pants boards:dunno:, then I would think you could probably still aford it after you picked up one of these.
@ this price how can you pass that up? Brand new, they are all 164cm. I do believe that is right around PERFECT is it not?
Use the savings & go cat boarding:thumbsup::thumbsup:
I bet if you bought one you wouldn't bother getting the other fancy pants one:dunno:

I'm just walkin' out the door, going to grab 2 right now.

Thanks but I'm holding out for the fancy pants board! :D I spend enough on snowboarding already, not going to cheap out on the main thing I'm there to do! (no offence to the Palmer, I'm sure they're great boards! The Platinums were apparently made by Kessler or the tech was licenced from Kessler?!?

That said I'm holding out for the carbon fibre, kevlar, space age material handbuilt to my specs, fancy pants board. :cheeky4:

#87 ·
Well I got myself 2 of the semi fancypants boards. I think 2 semi fancypants = 1 super fancypants:D:dunno:

Found three Palmer Titanium boards @ the ski-swap last weekend.

Pertty good deal, considering that they have a sticker price of $750 & that was ten years ago.

If I was a millionaire I would pick the super fancypants too, unfortunately I'm poor. So I have to use other methods to acquire my goodies.

Bought 3 Palmer's with bindings, for the sweet price of...dun da da dahhh... $250 cash no tax...
I had one sold for $300 three days before I even bought them.
So I made $50, just to keep these 2 brand new $800 dollar semi fancypantsters.

So my options are...
1. Make $50 & get 2 brand new boards.
2. Pay large out your ass for one.

Sorry poutanen, :DI'm gonna have to go with the 1st option.

If you believe this post http://www.snowboardingforum.com/boards/50922-snowboard-technology.html#post535257 then those 10 year old boards are junk now...

I disagree with that post however and think you'll probably really enjoy the Palmers. I was searching for a Palmer Platinum a couple years ago but had no luck.

Found some Burton T6's (brand new) at the snow show in Calgary last weekend but they wanted $550 each. I asked what they were willing to do for a realiztic price and they said that's already on sale! I told them they were so far out to lunch it wasn't funny.

Nevertheless, if I make my way to Whistler this year we'll have to meet up and you can try the fancypants space aged board. :cheeky4:

#89 ·
I haven't read the post yet, yeesh, I don't know if I want to.
This ones not a Platinum, it's Titanium. They have on the space shuttle don't they?:dunno:

For sure head out this way, I'd love to see if the fancypants is all it's cracked up to be.

You can try the Titanium, or any other board in the quiver.
Fuck, by the time you make it out here, I'm sure the quiver will be 2wice as big.

Since summer I've gone from 1 board to something like 8 or 10, I don't even know?
