Warning: MeltDown Shop in Kitchener

Hey all,

wanted to warn you guys about this shop called meltdown in kitchener. Went there this past weekend for their "Mid winter snowboard show" because a friend of mine wanted to buy new bindings. I've been looking at the burton diodes myself for about 2-3 months now. Basically i know all about them. To my surprise, I saw the Diodes Est version at the store for a lovely and completely bullsh*t price of $479.99 apparently on sale from $599.99 while the canadian burton website states that MSRP is $429.99 for the diodes est..... just wanted to warn everyone before they got ripped off. However, on their website, they sell the bindings for msrp with a sale now... wish they would have some consistency with prices

Shred on!

A lot of local shops carry gear at over MSRP. Haven't really seen it much in this particular industry, but definitely in others. That way they have some margin to work with when they put items "on sale". It's up to the customer to educate themselves.

Not defending the practice as I think in this day and age of the internet it's not a wise practice. Once word gets out about it, you're pretty much dooming yourself.

MSRP = Manufacturer's SUGGESTED Retail Price. It's not set in stone. If a shop wants to try to sell it for more than that, it's well within their rights to do so. The other term to know in pricing is MAP. MAP = Minimum Advertised Price. Lots of companies institute MAP to protect their retailers from getting undercut by larger dealers that can make up for less margin with quantity.

I bought a board from them... Price was good, but they had it packaged in toilet paper and it was scratched up pretty badly. Almost looked like a used product.

Not to mention their website is out of sync with the rest of their inventory. They'll advertise stuff as being in stock, and contact you 4-5 business days later informing you they actually don't have anything in stock.

I'd rather buy from Source Boards, if I'm ordering anything online, mostly because I pay less on tax, and can find some decently priced stuff.

But yeah... It pays to shop around, and see what other companies are offering price-wise.

I recall them having some really good deals end of season last year when they still had a shop in Toronto. It's mid season, not too sure what you are expecting in terms of a sale. So things weren't cheap and you didn't walk away with anything and it in fact wasn't a good sale. I wouldn't go as far as flogging the shop for that.

I'd have to say Used, as the edges were rusted when I got it in the mail.
