Default Rome or Burton?

Hi All,
I'm new to the snowboarding world but am really enjoying it so far. I'm considering buying my first board but don't know which might be best for me. I think I've narrowed down the brands that I'd like to either Rome or Burton (with Rome as my preference). The thing is... I don't know what style board I should get, what size, etc. I'm 5' and weigh 137 lbs. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was considering the Burton Feather simply because Dicks Sporting goods is having a great package deal on it right now. Any suggestion would be great to hear!
Thanks,
Rachel

This is my own prefrence, but I prefer Rome than Burton. As for choosing what board and what board size, I go by looking for a board that fits my prefrences. How does it handle? What should it be used for? Etc ...
All of these questions can be answered by searching and looking for reviews. Although sometimes a board hasn't gotten a review that is beneficial or even been ridden, sometimes you have to take a chance and give it a go. For a first board, I would always go with something that has a lot of positive reviews so you know you're getting a board that you can learn on.
Picking new boards and experimenting with new boards and all that would be for someone that is somewhat experienced enough to know what to look for in a board and can tell the difference from variable X and Y.

When choosing board length, look at the board and see what weight/length ratio the board recommends. Always go and look at the board in person and see if it fits your reqiurements. These tips are something I do, it's not necessary but I like to feel insured that I'm buying something that fulfills my needs and wants before buying. It also helps if the place you're buying from has a spectacular return/exchange policy.

I can't speak for Burton as I have never used their products. I was treated so well by Rome that I don't buy from anyone else. Their gear is great and their customer service is standout. I can't compare the two, but I can assure you that if you buy from Rome, you WILL be happy.

I have Burton boots, and they are great. I myself own a Rome Vinyl board and I couldn't be happier. I can't say I have ever used a good Burton board, but Rome does not disappoint.

Are you 5 feet flat? Do you know the size of the Feather they are giving you a deal for?

Arrow Rome!

i love my rome board! i had a burton before and it was basically over priced for what it was. it only lasted me one season too, i do snowboard quite a bit but still i was expecting it to hold up a little better than that. as far as what kind of board, and size, it all depends on what your going to be doing with it. Park and rails, you'll want it a little shorter and center stance. if your a powder whore, then go for a longer board with more of a stance toward the back.

Rome > Burton when it comes to boards/bindings, for sure.
