hi all, new to this forum, need some help on getting a new board for a newbie, what do ya think of the sims protocol 163 wide board for starting out(the price is good) i'm 6'3" 225 lbs, 12 boot, i'm trying to stay around the $200-250 range. riding local parks in IL/WI area, thanks for any input, tony.....................

The price may be affordable, but Sims is a joke.

Head True Black XL 159 (a little short, but not a problem for a beginner and free Skullcandy headphones)
Technine Split T 163 (a little much, but free Skullcandy headphones)

You could also try to find an O-matic Awesome Wide.

Size is right on and while the price is a good deal, Sims boards are lower end, entry level budget boards. They are great for getting people into riding who cannot afford better equipment. The downside is that they do not perform to the level that an intermediate and advanced rider wants and people who are serious about progression outgrow the board fast. You can find a far superior board for about the same price if you go with a 1 or 2 year old version (new and unused). A couple of good options to look at would be the Rome Flag for freeride or the Rome Slash for more of an all mountain freestyle board. With size 12, you can get away with a mid wide like the Atomic Radon which is an incredibly versatile and lively board. The Atomic Alibi wide is also an exceptional board.

You can find last years Forum Recon Wide, or Rome Manual for really cheap. I don't know if they have the sizes you need though, but they will serve you better than a Sims.

hey guys, thanks for the help, i think i'll put a hold on the sims board and look around and serch for a better board, and keep on searching this forum for more info, i still see things as "you get what you pay for". thanks again, tony.................
