Killzone 2

after 4-5 years in the works and a considerable amount of hype, Killzone 2 finally dropped last week. anybody pick it up? I was lucky enough to get my copy on Thursday.

early impressions are sort of mixed, but mostly positive. graphically, Killzone 2 really does raise the bar for next-gen. very impressive. although the game is set in the future, it's got WWII written all over it (or maybe just the vibes I'm getting) with the Helghast bearing more than a passing resemblance to the Nazis.. especially Radec, who has the aura of a supreme Nazi commander!

the cover system is pretty good and makes for a more tactical experience.. so even attempting to storm an enemy position with guns blazing is impossible to pull off. the enemy AI is simply excellent. they use cover very well and routinely adjust their tactics. couple occasions where I’ve been taken by complete surprise with their flanking manoeuvres while under a grenade blitz.

unfortunately, your squad AI is a major let down. consisting of stereotypical dumb meatheads, they offer no support whatsoever, and position themselves terribly in the open.. even whilst under heavy fire. the end result is they go down and you’re expected to revive them a la CoD within a limited time-span before they die. I also dislike the fact that, with being limited to carrying 2 weapons, you can’t ditch the pistol in favour of more powerful weaponry.

the missions are really fun, however. the battle for the bridge is my favourite so far. online play is awesome too! I love the objective constantly changes from stuff like last stand to assassination, etc. the ranking / reward system looks better than CoD.

Picked up Kilzone2 for myself last Friday.
Yes, the graphics are amazing.. almost movie like at times.
However, the controls are a little hard for me to use at this point in time since i'm still use to Halo3 & Cod: World at War.
I haven't played much into the Campaign yet & haven't touched the online portion at all so far, but will soon enough i get the controls down.. LOL.

KZ2 is fucking sick. Get the patch for the controls. The rolling mission objectives during multiplayer is an especially great idea I've never seem before. I finished story mode and I'm now just doing multiplayer. If it's not as good as CoD4, it's a close #2 for best FPS ever. And, for now, it's arguably the best looking console game of all time. It'll eventually be outdone once GoW3 and Heavy Rain come out.
