Sony just released their PSP Go. The " GO " is actually short for " Go F#$% yourself " to all their customers.
Maybe it's just me, but I HATE sony and all their proprietary formats. The MS Stick for their cameras just right pisses me off, but the whole PSP Go is even worse. Sony came out with a useless format UMD for their PSP. Ok fine. If you bought a Sony product and didn't expect this you kind of deserve this. Now I agree/understand why the PSP Go is all digital downloads. First this just makes sense and its the way tech is going, and they need to try to battle the iPhone/iTouch incursion in their niche (gaming). But come on!!!! You have absolutely screwed all your customers that actually bought an original PSP and spent money on all your stupid UMDs. Now, a decent company would create a way for all their customers to convert their UMDs to a digital format to load onto their GO. But hey, maybe that tech is super expansive or not possible. I could understand that. Oh, in the EU you are allowing all your customers to do this exactly because you are so scared of the EU coming down on you like they have all the rest of the big tech giants. Ok cool. So you have the tech to do it, and at no cost to you WHATSOEVER you could bring this tech to the rest of your customers across the world? Fantastic. And yet they don't. It pisses me off to no end that BluRay beat out HDDVD and we will have to deal with this kind of crap for the next number of years. Them winning out in Blu-ray will just reinforce their belief that their proprietary formats are justifiable, while they are really just a way to rip off customers. That's my rant. Can't say I didn't warn you it wasn't. I'm going to play my Xbox and enjoy my Canon camera, and even though you still make money on it, I'll enjoy my movies on my SAMSUNG blu-ray player. P.S I bought my Samsung player so I could go out and buy all the HDDvDs at a ridiculous low price (Shaun of Dead HDDVD at $1.39) just so I wouldn't have to buy them in blu-ray. |

And all the while you have to pay for online service, which over the course of just a couple years (the same amount of time it takes to go through 8 360's) you'll actually end up shelling out MORE money for your 360 and XBL than you ever would for a PS3. But M$ isn't screwing customers over, huh? ![]() Quote:

I know they can download stuff onto their original PSP, but their UMDs are now pretty much a dead format. I'm talking about customers who already have UMDS.
Why would customers who have a PSP buy a GO? I agree with you on that, but that is part of my problem, in that Sony has made buying their new hand held completely unappealing to their existing customer base, which in my opinion is not good customer service, or even good business. My blu-ray comments were definitely just rants. I'm not worried about conversion or anything, it was just another thing in terms of Sony's own formats that sucks. As for my xbox, I enjoy. It hasn't died yet, and yeah paying for live isn't great, but I really don't have much issue with it. I did not mean to make this an Xbox vs ps3 debate. I do actually have both, but like many people I know, I tend to spend the most time on my Xbox. |

the reason you pay for xbl is because its better and that's how we get updates and new things such as party chat and a better marketplace. and yeah xboxs don't just die overnight and ive seen friends ps3s die in days and some lasting til day one.

How is the PSP GO unappealing to their existing customer base? If they don't already have a PSP, then no harm no foul - they can get a PSP GO and not be concerned with a pile of UMD's. If they already have a PSP and UMD's, why would Sony need to appeal to them, they don't need to buy a new PSP. UMD's were made to try and offset the rather high (at the time) cost of solid state memory. Back then a 256MB card cost a hundred bucks or more. Now you can get an 8GB card for $10 if you know where to look. There's no need for UMD's anymore, and I don't see how losing the capability in the GO affects anybody - If you have UMD's, you obviously already own a PSP and don't need a GO. If you want a handheld and don't currently have a PSP, you won't have UMD's either, so the GO is a reasonable setup. Quote:

Pretty sure Samsung player is made by Samsung. Back when I bought it, it had a lot of features (beyond HDDVD) that you didn't see on a lot of Sony's, and Sony is the type of company to make a higher end product for an OEM then they'd release themselves.
All I'm saying, is that for NO cost, Sony could make their customers UMDs usable/downloadable to their new GOs. I understand what you are saying that customers wouldn't want a go if they had a PSP, but bottom line is that there a lot customers out there who always want the newest best thing, and infact a lot of these are the typical die-hard sony customers. Look at all the people who bought new iPhone 3Gs when they had an existing one already. There isn't THAT much a difference, but the early adopters always go for that stuff. Regardless, I do like my xBox and have no complaints about it. Love the media center edition which syncs with my HP Media Server wickedly, and the fact that my Monster RF remote can control it ($100 acc to be able to do this with my PS3). PS3 has a lot to offer for sure, but I just don't seem to turn it on that much. . . |
