Well my xbox 360 finally bit the dust today... it had the so called three red lights of death... So I gave the people at xbox a shout and they said the three rings of death is covered no matter how old your 360 is... The guy gave me an RA number and said the pre-paid shipping box should be here in 3to5 business days... Just thought some would like to know this....

having both on the shelf, id have to say the 360 gets more use at our house, (though it is our second, the first having died not the 3 red lights though) playstation needs to step up the game output. course the blueray looks so so good.

i will give it to ps3's, they definatly are more sturdy hardware wise, but for me, i personally enjoy the games that are out for 360 and xbox live a whole lot more to overlook my 360 breaking. and if it does, like he said, im covered anyways. no offense to the ps3 owners.

I love the band-wagoning that you hear when another system flops... ps3 owners act like sony is the greatest thing since sliced bread.... short memory spans forgot the ps2 disaster.... That's not the point though... I was just trying let some people know if they did lose their 360... It might just get repaired for free...

i know you weren't defending.... but you were hardly making a neutral statement here now were ya?

it matters not. but i agre it blows when manufacturers hold back on hardware releases.... i went and bought my PS2 around the time when magazines were reporting the development of PS3!

and as for the prices.... well be glad you don't live in the UK! we get raped on all things here. :(

Ps3 have their problems too. I have an 360 and a ps3. The 360 just had the 3 light death last month and the Ps3 didn't recognize Bluerays for some reason, I exchanged it for a new one work fine now.

As long as it doesn't cost me anything I wont complain.

i am no fan of sony, they created the fatality circuit board afterall!

however, i am no fan of microsoft either and many allegedly 'console exclusive' games are crossing over to other hardware firms. this is especially painful for 360 owners, coz many of those games crossing over to PS3 apparently include the extras, which 360 owners had to pay for to download.

oh dear.

and as for the PS2 disaster..... what disaster? i am still playing mine and it is about 7 years old! rah!

I'm defending neither one... i'm talking about the "1st gen" ps2 that had all the disk read errors... drives sticking, flashing power supply light etc... I guess your one of the lucky ones:dunno::thumbsup:.. It makes me sick how they intentionally hold back stuff on the games just so they can jab you for another 12$ on the marketplace...

IF YOUR 360 IS OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD................

go to your local best buy and purchase a 360 with the warranty. The warranty means you can return it to them without question and they will give you a brand new one right away. switch the boxes and return the system. You are out 30 bucks with a brand new system that has a serial new serial number with a 3 year warranty

ha i definatly like this solution

my ps2 is about 8years old and needs to warm up for about 45mins before it can read a disc,
i think there are about 2 games i can play to warm it up...the rest wont read.

kind of a laugh kind of a pain in the ass, my first ps2 had 2 get replaced cause of some fault with it...but that was free so i aint complaining

LUCKY! I didnt get the three rings of death on mine :( My lense stoped working. So I emailed/called Microsoft and they gave me some bull story about me not buying the apropiate coverage for it. So now I have a nice $400 doorstop :cheeky4: <----Microsoft

The hard drive on the 360 is de-tatchable. I'm pretty sure they'll send your hard drive back on a new model. Check first though by calling/emailing them or just take off the hard drive before you send it.

PS3 has it's fair share or problems too, namely with the laser, and it's quite common too. The problem is, manufacturer's are rushing to get products out as soon as possible, to save on cost, and maximize profit. Missing the Christmas season is just not acceptable; the 4th quarter is where the moeny is to be made in console sales. To protract development another 6-8 months to get things dialed, would result in millions of potential revenue lost, and would add tens of thousands of dollars, if not, more in cost, due to protracting development.

With the 360, it helped initiate something even bigger: the next generation of Xbox Live. I believe Xbox Live has earned over $1 billion in revenue since its inception, and it's contiinually growing. A new subscriber every second, and it's the largest distrubution network of entertainment in the world.

Sure, MS lost money on the consoles, but the money they made on Live made more than up for it. MS is laughing to the bank. What's another console replacement, when every major network wants to get involved with your service?
