so ive attempted calling microsoft, my warranty is up so they dont give two shits about me. this is my second box in about 3 years first one rrod'd with over heating problems. but this new one for some reason wont rrod itself for its problem.
problem: started happening occasionally last month and now it just doesnt work, when i put any 360 game in it spins the disc says reading and then makes some low pitched shreeky sound and says open tray. ive tried countles games, flip my box over and tried, thru it down the stairs and tried it, played who can bounce it highest off my bed and tried it. nothing works it will still let me browse thru meu's and play downloaded demos and watch netflix and such but it just doesnt wanna read discs. any incite? |

The jasper version is the updated chipset on the older 360s (white ones) It has a better heatsink and the system itself is supposed to run cooler and be more quiet. The easiest way to tell if you have one is to look for 150w DC output on the power brick.
As for your problem itself it sounds like your cd drive is bad. If I am not mistaken you can replace them for pretty cheap if you have some simple knowledge on how to take something apart and put it back together and there are many tutorials online for this. I have personally taken mine apart for various reasons and its pretty straight forward. Also Microsoft's 3 year warranty only covers the e74 RROD errors. I am unsure about the warranty on their drives. |

I fixed it. I tore it apart out of frustration, turns out the piece of metal that rides in the grove of a rod that pushes the cd laser back and forth somehow got outa the grove on the rod so it didnt move at all. Just spun it till i caught in the grove again and boom workin like a champ.....there was casualties in the process, 90% of th clips holding the outer casing together are no layinh broken on my floor.

All I know is that Xbox360's have been plagued with problems from the start. Mine sounds like a fucking airplane taking off, it makes more sound then my desktop computer with 4 fans in it. Sounds like they cheaped out of hardware, making stuff overheat in order to run smoothly.
