Hey everyone, As you see Iam a noob at snowboarding although i have been riding for 6 years or so I never got passed the wal-mart snowboards. so Im stepping into snowboarding more serious now. Im looking for a good starter snowboard. Im 16 years old and im about 5'7. I weigh 140 pounds and im still growing. Iam a freestyle rider that likes just to have fun and ride as well as tricks. Im looking for a snowboard that is under $170 that includes bindings and the board. Im looking for a used or new board that fits me. If anyone has some considerations or websites that are good please post here.

i was looking for the same, but then did the reserach and decided to pony up the xtra $ and get some quality gear. i heard a lot of cons with the cheaper stuff and the only 'pro' was money ... i think my budget was 450, and then i went over that and im @ ~600 now, but ive got some vry good stuff from what i can tell

and im a noobie, so im not one to tell you what to buy or whats best for you, just lettig you know i was in the same boat about a month ago. my breaking point was paying 80 bucks for a shty board and boots for a day of snowboarding at beech in NC

Im 5'7 and im still in that growing age of 16. Anyone help me size up my board? I was thinking 145cm?

Hey Man,

I hate to break the news to you, but your just NOT going to find a new board w/bindings under $170. The cheapest (decent) decks ALONE go for about $200 (K2 Anagram). The cheapest bindigs go for about $100 (Burton Freestyle). You might be able to find some used gear, but your still going to be hard pressed to get both for under $170.

height does not matter. Boot size and weight does. You need to look at the various manufactures web sites and see what weight ranges are for given board lenghts, and if your boot size fits the board. That said, you prolly in the 147-153 range.

i found a site - geartrade or geartrader - and it specializes in used ski stuff.

this is the end of the 'season' in the SE, so all of the stores areound here are having sales. the fargos i bought were like 265 list, and i think i got them for 150

At this point, I think you're better off just shopping for the best deal that you can find. There's no point in determining which board is the best fit for you if you've got to pay full price at this point in the season. Even REI and dogfunk has started clearing out all snowboarding gear and I'm sure most sites will do the same soon.

It can be a challenge since most of the deep discounted boards only come in pretty extreme sizes, but with the end of the season right around the corner, price should almost be a primary decision factor.

thanks, Would a 147cm-153cm board lenght be good for me if I weigh 140pounds and im a size 11 in boots?

I saw a couple boards on ebay that were nice, they were morrow, k2, and LTDs for $100 new. All I need is a reliable board that will last me awhile. I dont grind or go off big jumps at least not at this point in time.
