Default snowboard wax kits

so i just purchased my snowboard and i was looking into some snowboard wax kits and wanted some opinions on this snowboard wax kit Deluxe Snowboard Tuning Kit (1210)

like if anyone has bought this and what they think of the edge and bevel tool ect... or if anyone can recommend another kit they found more useful. Keep in mind that i have no equipment whatsoever and need a kit with the basic fundamentals.

It`s a bit overpriced in my opinion. All you really need right now for a basic kit is an iron for hot waxing, wax and a scraper. Edge tools are something that I tend to bo of the opinion that you should spend a little more on to get really good equipment. Those multi tools do a less than stellar job in my experience and that one is not something I would attempt to use for the base edge.

Basic wax setp:

Toko Wax Mouse: great little iron for hot waxing

Lexan scraper for scaping excess wax

All temp Wax, Soy base recomended, but a flouro is good if not so great for the ebvironment.

Green scotch Brite scrubby pad for polishing

A decent stiff nylon brush for texturing the base wax

A soft horse hair brush for super polishing

Get a decents handheld edge sharpener for in the field basic edge sharpening

A cheap sharpening stone to lightly detune the edge after sharpening

A standard file for detuning tip and tail and nick repair.

When you are ready for serious edge tuning, get a good base edge file guide and an good edge bevel guide. They are worth the money to get good ones.

I have this kit: Swix Alpine Glide Wax Kit from Backcountry.com It's a bit on the pricey side, but I needed an iron along with the other stuff and you can't go wrong with swix.

Check out tognar toolworks.

I bought their basic snowboard waxing kit. You get an iron, wax, brush & scraper for about $50. Good basic kit I use it all the time. It doesn't include any edge tuning tools but they do sell them separately if you want those too.

don't mean to thread steal but i gotta question snowolf, can you pick up any of these brushes from like a hardware store or any place else other than at a local shop cause most of the shops here just sell kits rather than separate tools, and for a the citrus base cleaner that you said you can pick up, what is the brand or name of the product that you use so I can use some reference when I go to try and find it. Also with the nylon brush, when you texture the base, are you supposed to just do a long single sweep from tip to tail or do you just brush it like you are polishing with the scotchbrite pad?

The kits are fine. They are neat to buy. I would think most of them are fine in quality and results. But you dont need them. Here is all you need.

Go to the grocery store and get Parafin Wax. It is clear and is made for canning and skis and snowboards. Its the same wax in those kits by chemical standards. True the kits may containe waxes for different temps...If your a pro on the jeep tour...fine. If your like me an idiot on the hill Then just get the regular parrafin wax and you will be just fine.

Then u will need a scraper..Many stores now have large ones I see alot. U do need one of those.

Ohhh yea..I forgot those cheap green scrubbies u get at the dollar store...Get the multi pack. Its only a buck. U need those for polishing

An iron...key for sure. Get an old standard iron from someone or just get a new one. If u take care of it and melt the wax properly it should last for years. I have had mine for five years and I regulary wax my boards with it. It is a standard household one. Dont get the mini ones because they cover less surface on the board when spreading the wax.

One way of keeping an iron in good shape is when your done waxing the board, unplug it and hold the iron level in the air, rotate it forward and backward as the wax drips and burns off. Let cool for about 10 minutes or until it is warm, then put it on a glass hot plate holder with a paper towl and the wax excess wax will absorb into the paper towl. I turn the towl over a few times.

Again the kits are fun and fine but they are not mandatory.

Do not follow this advice. Now I know why Carmen's board runs so damn slow. Get a snowboard wax, all temp, or for the temps you are expecting.

The Tognar advice was pretty good. They are legit. I buy a lot of stuff from them myself. The shop ptex is the key thing with them. Way better than candle ptex. I also get the base repair string as I tend to get a lot of core shots over a season.

No the board ran slow because actually I was too scared to go down all that powder and I think I didnt lean back enough honestly..

Honestly its worked fine for me...Particularly over here on the east coast...where are snow is fast most days.

Now my board has run slow when I bought the kit wax and used the yellow in warmer temps...rather than the red???

But hey...2 each his own.
