Lake Tahoe advice? Need help quickly...

Hello, I'm a resident from Southern California and I'm planning on possibly going to Tahoe within the next few days with my uncle and his two kids.

My questions for you are:

-What is the best overall resort for a family like us to check out? This is factoring in snow levels, vastness of the resort, price affordability, etc.. I've noticed there are at least 5-6 resorts in the area, but I'm sure they're all spread out and what not.

-Is it worth going up to Tahoe at this point in time? If the snow levels are not great, I might just let him know that we should stay in SoCal and hit up the residential Mt. High or Bear Mountain locations.

I'm the one doing the research for my uncle so I'm hoping that I can give him a great answer. Thank you to anyone who has any advice to share.

Well, I'll be up at Squaw between Christmas and New Year's and I can tell you, the snow levels and number of open runs don't look very good. Mostly they have greens and blues open, so if your family are advanced riders and prefer blacks, it's not worth going there or to Alpine Meadows.

These are the resorts I'm familiar with (both on the North Shore), but I'm not sure it's much better at the others, since we seem to be having a dry year *mumble, grumble*

The crowds at bear will be horrendous over the holiday weekend. Driving up the 18/330 with all the IE snow play crowds is awful. I did it for 20 years. I would say its a trade off. 30-40min lift lines at bear and summit or less terrain in Tahoe. Despite the drive and low snowpack, you'd probably still have more fun in Tahoe.

If you can push the trip back and wait for the resorts to get more snow I would do that.

But if you are determined to go, I stayed in South Lake last December and we had a rental car so we could drive within an hour to the other resorts besides just having Heavenly right there.

There's not enough snow in Tahoe right now to make it worth the trip.
