Travel insurance

Heading to Canada in a couple of weeks and am looking at travel insurance.

It looks like most insurance companies have the option you can tick for "winter sports activities", but it only seems to cover lost rental gear, lost tickets etc etc.

Am I right in my thinking that the standard policies generally cover accidents within the resort boundaries? I know it's not a huge amount more, but i don't want to pay an extra $80-$100 for lost lift tickets and gear.

The PDS dosent mention anything about not covering snowboarding within resort boundaries.

That's my understanding too. I get complimentary travel insurance with my credit card and it will cover in bounds only. I couldn't even pay extra to cover out of bounds as it's seen as purposefully putting yourself in a position of high risk. I'm sure there's a provider out there that will cover out of bounds but I reckon it'd be pricey.

Yeah just had a look in more detail at a couple other insurers. Most of them don't cover off piste or back country, and when they do the price skyrockets (like you suggested)

Coverage without covering any off piste is basically worthless imho.

With a name like old mate I assume you are an Aussie?
If so look at travel insurance direct. They cover off piste if within the resort boundary.
