Big Sky Conditions

Woot first post. Anyhow, heading to big sky montana in a few days and wondering if anyone knows how the conditions are. would rather hear first hand then just look on their website. Thanks

You don't hear much talk of Big Sky around here so I wouldn't bank on getting a first hand response. They have been getting some great snow so you'll have a great trip. Plus they combined Moonlight Basin with Big Sky now so the size of where you can go with your lift tickets is crazy now. I can't wait until I can get back there, best trip I have ever had.

sweet thanks. now hopefully the terrain isnt too extreme for me. look like they got some gnarly stuff.

Nah, you'll be fine, they have plenty for all skill levels...the place is huge. I recommend taking a ride up the tram to the top of lone peak even if you aren't advanced/expert. There is a separate line for people just going up for the view and you can leave your gear at the bottom. The ride up and the view are worth it.

You might try checking in the Regional section of the forum for that part of the country. Might have more luck getting local info!

There is no way ill be riding the tram down. That would ruin the whole trip. Ive been to vail, which I know cant hold a candle to big sky in terms of chutes and such, and had no problem riding the whole mountain and that was a few years ago. Liberty bowl seems to be well in my comfort zone. Not expecting epic conditions though probably just wind slab.

Kind of spring conditions at the moment, not great by Big Sky standards but we're incredibly spoiled here. There is plenty of fun to be had here. Just don't even think about going into the backcountry. Avalanche danger is still really high everywhere around here.

considering I have zero backcountry experience that never even crossed my mind but thanks for the heads up!

Agreed was out there over xmas break, spring conditions a lot of rock so watch out. I destroyed my board. Also, The rice Bowl was perfect every day because the drop in is pretty rock but there are some space uc an squeeze through and then get into powder. Also liberty is fun and not too scary.
