Park City-2/16 to 2/21

Fuck california. I have not been out for even ONE DAY this season. It's been like eightyfuckingdegrees where I live?

However I have a friend who moved to park city so I am going to stay with her on these days.

First up, Im driving from LA. I have limited experience driving in snow but I do havea subaru. Am I going to die? yes, I know carry blanket, food, water etc.

Also, she's a skier (boo) and mostly goes to alta (double boo) She said she would go with me to the Bird on the weekend but she has to work weekdays.

She also does a lot of bc stuff but I have zero interest in doing that with her.

So on the weekdays when she's working where are the best resorts to hit up?

Are there any smaller resorts? i prefer those anyway. Drivable from PC?

and anyone want to hook up and ride....?

Oh any good rec's on places to rent a powder board if it dumps and deals on lift tickets?

Yeah, been a rough year so far out there.

Die, hopefully not? Most of the drive is valley drive and the snow may or may not be an issue in the valley. Be advised that You may hit some crazy white-out conditions if the weather is amped-up. Otherwise, just take it slow and steady if it is snowing. Know that AWD gets you around, but doesn't guarantee excellent stopping distances or steering response, so keep your distance.

Also, she's a skier (boo) kinda sexy
and mostly goes to alta (double boo) is she cute?
She said she would go with me to the Bird on the weekend but she has to work weekdays. You gotta hook me up with her info when I'm in town

She also does a lot of bc stuff but I have zero interest in doing that with her.
She probably wouldn't drag your butt out in the BC, anyways. If she did, it would be foolish. That being said, If you're up for it, ask her to take you for a baldy hike at Snowbird if it is open/clear.

You'll probably be entertained simply by PC/Canyons if she lives in Park City. Otherwise, go to Solitude or Brighton....both are about a 40 min drive.

Check the weather. Often Sol/Bright are getting a bunch of inches when PC/Canyons are only getting a dusting.

Are there any smaller resorts? i prefer those anyway. Drivable from PC?
see above

Lifthouse is on the way to Snowbird, can get discounts/rentals there. Same with Canyon Sports which has locations in the SLC area.

Canyons is right in PC. It's a big resort and has some good terrain. Snow is still thin there all through the area but way more than California

thanks!! So small change of plans, Im not longer driving I am flying! I land Feb 14th at 9pm and leave thursday Feb 20th at 5pm.

My boyfriend is so happy Im going out of town for Valentines day ;-) His present to me? Dropping me off at the airport at 5am then he's OFF THE HOOK for VD Day. (clearly it means very little to us!)

And my friend (yes, she's hot. But...she's crazy. Love her anyway. I'll hook you up with her, she's single) Has free passes to Canyons and PCMR I can use!!! YUSSSS!!!!!!!! The passes are blacked out for the weekend and monday (prez day) but I can use them for some of the time I am there. I need to stay local on weekdays since she will be working. It looks like I can get to PCMR and Canyons via shuttle from her house.

So that leaves Sunday and Monday where we are riding together (and have her car) IM gonna talk her into Solitude or Brighton depending on conditions :)

No, she wouldn't drag me out for bc stuff. We both know better.

Thanks for the heads up on rental place. I might just buy a board out there and ship it home. Im bringing my boots and bindings with me.

It was in the 40s this morning at my house and I almost died. I forgot what cold weather was lol.

Mixie-

All I can say is have fun and let us know how it is! (Or just me perhaps...). I'm headed out there for a week in early March with a few friends (coming from the northeast).

FWIW, we were planning on doing ~5 days of riding and hitting up all the major resorts. PC, Canyons, Brighton, Solitude and Snowbird.

I am really excited because Ive only ever been to the crappy socal resorts and done a lot of days at mammoth. Probably 150 days over the last handful of seasons so Im stoked to go somewhere new.

Hoepfully it will dump snow and I will have lots to report on!

Argo 02-03-2014 10:38 PM

Definitely do canyons in PC if your used to mammoths size....

Good choice on flying! Looks like you'll be hitting it perfectly. All sorts of fluffy to fall between Wednesday and Friday. The Wasatch will be getting much more than PC/Canyons. Keep that in-mind. You'll get all sorts of goodies on the front side resorts. I think being blacked-out Sat/Sun will force you and your tour guide out for the good fluff. Get out early as I'm sure the weekend warriors will be after it in full-effect Saturday Morning. When that happens the traffic can be brutal. Go early and tailgate till the lifts start spinning. I'm sure the lifties will let two cuties on a little earlier than posted.
