Default Thunder Ridge Ski Area

Hey guys

I'm a student in NYC, looking for ski areas nearby to go snowboarding on the weekends. Have any of you gone to Thunder Ridge? Is it cool, and how's the snow and the trails? Any parks?

Or if you know any other ski areas or resorts nearby that are worth the trip, that'd be much appreciated.

THere's a reason it's called a "Ski Area" and not a resort or mountain. It's a hill, and not a very big one at that.

I've been there once - if you want to learn how to snowboard i guess it's fine, but it would take you about a few minutes to get down the longest green run on the mountain once you've got the basics down.

Not sure about parks, I went in early Jan and it wasn't open yet. From what I saw, the area that was closed off for the "park" is probably big enough for one or two hits. Maybe a box + rail on one side and another rail + mini jump beside that.

Try Mountain Creek, Hunter, Windham (in order of distance).

Yea, it's definitely tiny. Midweek $20 so you can't go wrong. Unless of course you already know how to snowboard.

Last time I went was last season. They had a huge mound of ice getting off the lift. They didn't even try to cover it up with any snow or

You are better off going there for their paintball field; Liberty Paintball.

Otherwise, being that you are in NYC, utilize the bus companies ( out of NYC to take you to and from the Catskills and Vermont mountains for better riding

I live pretty close to there and it is NOT worth the trip or your money. not only is the mountain tiny, trails suck, lifts are slow as shit and I dont even know if they groom. but the service is the worst in america , I literally had a lift operator open the window and ask if I had a bowl so he can smoke when I was getting of the lift. I don't have anything against weed but its extremely unprofessional to ask a customer for a bowl. it is also dangerous for a lift operator to be high. if you live very close or have a free ride and your extremely bored you can go but if not please don't go. I am not going to give my money to that resort after several bad service issues. P.S there is no park there is a area the size of my living room which has like one tiny box rail and a rainbow rail and you hike the 12ft distance back go the top of the park area.
