SALT LAKE CITY Getting into a bar in Utah is about to become a lot easier.

Gov. Jon Huntsman and state House and Senate leaders agreed Monday to eliminate the state's much-criticized private club system, which requires someone to fill out an application and pay a fee for the right to enter a bar unless he or she is the guest of a member.

Yeah, they sell the full strength brew at the social clubs which are just a bar. At least now they are going to treat them that way. Not much is going to change except that it will make more sense to the vacationer when they go out for food and drinks.

When I drove through Salt Lake City the whole place was very confusing, not least the bar/club distinction

There were places where you could buy brew and food, prior to this legislative milestone. However, the beer that they served was of the 3.2 variety. Now that the yummier stuff is open without paying (what ammounted to a cover charge), I am sure some places are going to be pushing their 3.2 out of the way. Ahh, back to quarter draft nights to get rid of the piss on draft.
