Beginner in Europe.... Chamonix IS an option
SO, Chamonix IS one of the best places for Boarding in Europe, but it is known as an area for experienced boarders.

However, having been there last week, I can tell you Chamonix is also a good place for beginers too, if you know where to go.

If you find yourself in Chamonix, and you want to learn to board here is my reccomendation....

So, I would start of at Le Tour, which is about a 20 minute ride on the shuttle from Place de Monte Blanc ( in the centre of Chamonix)

You can get a private 2 hour lesson for about 80 euros, to set you up for the week. Le Tour has the most gentle slopes and is a great place to build some confidence, and get your turns down. there is a small smooth green here, where you will probably do your lesson, and also anothe rlarger one with a slightly more challenging slope right next door. Both of these use a button lift, which is another thing worth learning with a teacher :)

Your next move should be to a harder green, for this I think your best option of flegeres. This is about a 10 minute ride on the shuttle from Place Mont Blanc. Go up in the cable car, and you will see a small cafe / hut. immediatly in front of you if a slope that splits into 2 greens and the both finish at the same chair lift at the bottom. these a much larger than Le Tour, and will give you a chance to really practice linking those turns and get some real confidence. There are also a number of good blues around Flegeres, they tend to start with a couple of quite steep slopes and they then become a lot more manageable.

Once you are happy with The greens you have done, then you are pretty much ready for any blue at Chamonix, as long as you happy side slipping and throwing a quick turn, you will do absolutley fine. The only bad thing I discoverd way if you decide to take the trip to Courmayer in Italy (Just the other side of the Mont Blanc tunnel) be careful.

If you go to the top of Val Veny, you may find the top a bit tricky, and there is a cross roads where it crosses a black run, and that can be a bit dicey!!!

Overall, I have been to Garstang (Munich), Meribell (3 valleys, France) and now Chamonix.... Out of the 3, I would go to Chamonix.

Whatever you decide to do, have a fantastic time, enjoy and chill
