Wrightwood, CA – October 28, 2009: Mountain High Resort in Wrightwood will open tomorrow, October 29th, making this the 13th year in a row they have been the first resort to open in Southern California with top to bottom riding. This also marks the resort’s earliest opening ever on machine made snow. Says Karl Kapuscinski, “This has the feel of a great season. With our early opening, El Nino looming, and the economy recovering, we feel very positive about the upcoming winter.” IMPORTANT!!! Thursday will be open to season pass holders only. For avid skiers and snowboarders looking for a recession-proof deal, Mountain High’s $299 Anytime Season Pass is a great way to save money. Regularly $599, this pass is good any day or night during the season, including holidays, and pays for itself in just five visits. Guests can get more information along with snow reports, live cams and text alerts at mthigh.com. Beginning Friday, early season prices will be $25 for children ages 7 to 12, $30 for Night tickets from 5pm to 10pm, $35 for a 4-Hour ticket, and $40 for an 8-Hour ticket. Prices are subject to change without notice. Operating hours will be 9am to 5pm on Thursday, 8:30am to 10pm on Friday, 8am to 10pm on Saturday, and 8am to 4pm on Sunday. Up to two lifts will be available accessing three trails which consist of predominately beginner to intermediate terrain. Six to ten terrain features will also be on the mountain including several of Mountain High’s brand new jibs. A full line of rental and retail products will be available along with repair services and food & beverage. The Winter Sports School is not yet offering lessons but will begin as soon as the necessary beginner terrain comes on line. |

I was up today, can't believe I'd be riding before Halloween in south cali. The condition was really good considering it's man made. Only problem is there's only one run open from top to bottom so it's a little crowded. I'm usually pretty good checking my speed and try to hold my line as not to cut anyone off but still got rammed twice. All in all a really good day and happy to be riding already.
I wonder who else is riding already. What other resort in the country is open already. |

If you're planning on heading up, better hurry since mt high doesn't anticipate staying open pass Sunday. I hadn't check their site for awhile but I came home from bodyboarding at Huntington Beach on Wednesday and was checking on wave condition so I thought I might as well check mt high and BAM. So lucky I did. I got the first run out of the way and now I'm ready for this epic el nino season.
