Default Anywhere near GA?

I know that it doesn't even snow here in Atlanta, GA.
But I just recently moved here, and I really REALLY REALLY want to snowboard, and I'm trying to find a ski resort that is located in a drivable location (meaning 8hrs max?)
I heard that there are some ski resorts in NC? SC?
Any reviews? Any thoughts?

Within 8 hours? Snowshoe, WV is going to be your best spot. There are some spots in NC closer, but not nearly as good as Snowshoe. In NC, Sugar is probably the best.

Two closest places would be Cataloochee. You would need to probably either come up to chattanooga or go through south carolina in NC. The other place would be Mentone Alabama which you could come up to chattanooga then down to bama on 58

Edit: Snowshoe is not 8 hours from atlanta. It is more like 10 or so

Check out SkiNC.com - North Carolina Ski for a bunch of info on NC, TN, VA, and WV resorts.

I used to go to Snowshoe from Athens a time or two/year when I was down there. Also went to Winterplace quite a bit, but I had a place to stay in Charlotte which broke the trip up.

Damn, I didn't realize it was that far from Atlanta. You're pretty screwed in ATL!

I also live in ATL, moved from Boone NC, and maybe the only positive is cheap flights compared to other cities with no good snowboarding options.

I'll split gas with you to NC any weekend though
