Good morning/afternoon all,
im looking at doing the 2017/18 season in Japan and was after some advice.
Im from Australia so travel there isnt really an issue, im more concerned about jobs and finding work etc.
Ive heard of some rule regarding the working visa where you cant have a prearranged work? Is this true? If so how did you combat this?
Also any suggestions on the best resort for a season from experience?
Cheers guys
Have a great one

Japanese working visa *requires* a pre-arranged job. And unless you are someone very special, no ski resort is going to sponsor you for that.

I assume you are referring to the Working Holiday visa (available until you are 31 or maybe it is 35 now). From what i hear they arent very strict on the working restrictions; you arent supposed to be at the same job for more than 6 months but many people do that. Same with the jobs, a few people will organise some English teaching jobs before they get here.

Other alternatives are to find yourself a woman to marry - many foreigners here do that. There are lots of women in the 35+ range who missed out on securing a Japanese husband (their use-by date is 30 according to most Japanese guys) and are still quite beautiful. That lets you work any job without restrictions.

As for finding a job, how is your Japanese? Remember that the population is still 98% native Japanese here. The exception to this might be around the Niseko area where i believe it is 97% Australian, 2% Japanese (1% other). To be honest i cant really tell you what the work situation is like on the ski fields; but on the ones i go to, most of the patrons are Japanese, and would expect you to speak Japanese.
