Hitting Mt. Bachelor this weekend

My buddy hooked it up with his timeshare in Sun River, so we're rolling down for for a long weekend. Staying 4days/3nights and riding 2 days. Prob 6-8 of us. Google maps shows Sunriver being ~30min. from the resort. Is that accurate, or is it actually much longer due to road conditions?

I went one time over a decade ago, back when I was a skier (yup), and don't remember much about the mountain. I tried searching on here, but didn't come up with much info. We're not interested in the park, other than maybe a couple laps here and there if it doesn't require a special pass or helmets. We spend most of our time threading through the trees, hiking ridges, or just looking for fresh tracks, steeps, and technical terrain. So, I have to ask: What runs/lifts to avoid, nice areas to hit, where it's worth it to hike, etc...?

I also remember that it wasn't like the big resorts with much of a village or nightlife. I'm hoping alot has changed over the years, so is that still the case?

Also, is there anywhere (online or in-store) where we can find discounted lift tix? Hopefully better than the 2day pass for $118 at the window.

Thanks in advance!

yea, about 20-30 min. up to the hill... we always park by skyliner via sunrise parking lot, because you can ride right up to the car.. sunrise lift mostly sucks, skyliner is park.

if there is a fresh dump for you then its worth hiking the cindercone for the first couple laps of the day... take redline off of pine marten and before you turn hard right back to the lift towards the bottom getback bomb off of the cat track and charge up the hill with no lift with all the post holes leading up to the top... if you drop in good it is a really really short hike.

good powder and tree runs on the backside off of the summit but its rarely open... you take it around to NW express, which also has really good tree runs on pow days... also runs more often. If you want to come up here and ride trees, then please wear a helmet. a good friend of mine who was an expert level skier was killed a few years ago on Bachelor when he struck a tree on NW. I don't care how good you think you are - you are not immune.

no special pass required for park, but if you ride without a helmet you are an idiot.

nightlife - sunriver sucks shit.. go to Bend.

there used to be discounted tickets at the shell stations with a fill up of $20+ i think

Thanks for the info. I think you're referring to the Shell ski free deal when you get 10 gallons. They suck these days, with very limited days/times, and Bachelor isn't even included. Looks like Bend is about 30min. away, so we'll prob end up just staying in. Plan is to stock up on groceries and booze on the way in, and just hang out at the resort.

Definitely hoping for some fresh snow, but I guess we'll see. Things have been slowly improving over the last week here in the NW, so hopefully it keeps up. I know more of you have something to say! I've seen people post here and there about how Bachelor is the shit...so yeah let me know!
