Budget winter vacations?
The past few years have been kind of hard on me business wise, but things picked up this year just in time dig out of a hole and put a little away for a SB trip this winter. Usually we stay somewhere in or around Breck for 10 days and my part of the expensis are usually around 2k-2500 give or take. This year I have maybe 1000(probably closer to 800 lol) bucks to go, and I don't think my brother is going at all.
I'd like to get at least 5 days of riding in, and don't care at all about nightlife. I guess some kind of touristy type crap would be ok cause my GF is coming with me and she doesn't ride. It needs to be with in a days drive from Lincoln Ne. so pretty much Co. or Wyoming. I was thinking about Monarch, since that is where I learned to ride years ago, and it's fairly cheap to stay in Salida. Is it worth it as a more experianced rider to check it out, I olny got to see the lower part of the moutain, and rode the same green run the whole time.
I saw a banner ad for a package deal to Jackson Wy. under 400 for 3 days 4 nights lift and lodging, but then I saw it required double occupancy. That means I would have to pay a 100 bucks a night for my GF just to stay in the motel.
I did see a write up in snowboader mag awhile back about some little resort in Wy. that was a little mom n pop type place but looked awesome. I can't remember the name of it, I'll have to look through my back issues when I get home tommorow night.
I'm open to any and all suggestions after going all last winter on our mole hill, I really need a big mountain fix. Also booking much more then a week or so in advance is near impossible because of my work. However I do want to get in on some of the pre-season multi day pass deals if at all possible. Also, I'll be going in off peak season, not sure if early or late, is one better then the other as far as prices go? Thanks in advance for any help with this.
