Hey guys, hopefully this is the right area to post this....Anyways im headed to the states for a month with the family from Dec 1 to Jan 1. We are staying in Vegas from the 1st to 10th of Dec and i looked into resorts nearby to get a day or 2 in while im there. (in bounds not BC, im not good enough nor trained for BC yet)
So my question is, is it worth a trip to Mt Charleston for a day in early Dec? What sort of terrain is there as in will my wife who is a beginner be able to have fun or will she be overwhelmed. Any tips on the area will also be appreciated, and i did search for info but found limited info except for there being an inbounds avy that killed a kid a few years back..........really reassuring. Any help would be appreciated

and now to clog up the thread some more, i might instead go to Brian Head in UT, seems it may be a better option in terms of snow and terrain choice. Again any info would be awesome

wow a marathon, thats about 32kms further than i like to run. Im sure ill be free over that weekend at some stage as all i have planned is catching up with some friends that live in vegas and going somewhere for a day trip to shred, so im sure a drink one night is doable.

If I remember correctly that resort just got a 50 million dollar face lift with terrain expansion, new gondola, new snow making, new chairlifts, and a new lodge. From what I've heard from 2 long time locals it's actually a fun place to go because it's not over commercialized nor has it blown itself into full blown retarded resort land. Plus it's a 45 minute drive from the strip.

I have been to Lee Canyon (Mt. Charleston) about 5 times and Brian Head more than that. As a local, I have a season pass to BH but Lee Canyon is always there for a lazy day option. If you like hitting terrain parks, Lee Canyon is actually pretty nice. It's got a couple off-piste runs and the grooming is generally very good. Here's what it doesn't have: crazy steeps and high speed lifts. As long as you don't need those, it'll be great for a day for you.
The reason locals always slam it is you can pretty do everything there is to do there in one day. |
