Ok, well I am taking my son (16) and wifey to Utah on a last minute trip. We have to go this timeframe because of existing obligations. I want some opinions on the trip I am planning.
I would like to start off by saying we are not extreme boarders. We pick powder and trees over everything else. For example, our best trips historically, ordered by the most fun we had, are... 1. Whitefish, MT 2. Bachelor, OR 3. Brighton/Bird, UT 4. Whistler, CAN 5. Heavenly/Kirk/Squaw 6. Vail/Copper, CO This order of "FUN" trips was totally based on the powder we experienced, which is MOST important. I was thinking of flying into SLC, renting a car and heading to Snow Basin/Powder MT for 3 days and then hit Bird if new snow arrives. Is the canyons worth seeing. I am only saying this because we have been to the Bird 3 times with limited new snow and very tracked up within hours. I know that the POW is unpredictable, but all things being equal, what would you all do with 4 days to ski and explore. I want to end up in SLC, so snowbird should be the last stop if you include it on the trip. Thanks, |

Canyons is very meh, in my opinion. Overpriced for pretty average riding. Its huge, you would be hard pressed to do every run in one day, but to me Utah has way better to offer.
I'll advocate powder mtn to anyone, but you have that & Basin already listed. Snowbird is fun - I'm a bit more partial to Brighton myself. Seems like a pretty awesome plan for a trip though.

Went to Powmo and snowbasin in 2010. They are awesome Mt's. we found stashes in the woods at Powmo days after a storm. The staff there is awesome,in the three days we hit the Mt not ONE person even glanced at our tickets and were super layed back. How refreshing apposed to the scanners at snowbasin. The prices were value and there was deals on tickets if U ask around. On a powder day I might opt for snowbasin beacause of the cosy ride up in a gondola and the LONG runs back to the lift. Either place is AWESOME with powder so if U go there U cant miss.I hope U get the deep powder for Ur trip to make it epic.Good luck
