Vail / Stratton & the Burton US Open

I booked a flight earlier today to Denver with intentions of going to Vail (and probably Breck/Keystone) and later found out my trip is the same week Vail is hosting the Burton US Open. What I read said that the competition will be hosted in the Golden Peak area of the mountain but I'm worried the whole place is gonna be a zoo and packed with people. I figure it'll make the night lift more fun but being on the mountain is my main priority and I'm concerned it's going to take away from the experience.

Anyone have any opinions? Has anyone ever been to Stratton while they've hosted the Burton US Open? Thanks in advance for any responses.

I had looked at BC too but would you say that in general to someone interesting in going to Vail or because of the event? I'm near Philly and have never been out west and this will probably be my only opportunity for the next few years so I want to make the most of it.

Beaver Creek> Vail. Any place you can ride a heated outdoor escalator to the chairlift and get fresh baked chocolate chip cookies served to you on a silver platter for free should rank on a must go to list.
