What resorts open in November with decent snow? I read about places having the 'white ribbon' or the 'ribbon of death'. What is that? My guess is that its the only available run (or couple of runs) with enough snow to have fun on, so everyone and their mom goes on it.
Any resorts IN THE US open in November with enough snow to actually have fun on? I know it all depends on weather, but I'm asking for just typical conditions. I hear Loveland gets snow early, maybe A Basin. Lake Tahoe? I'm excluding all the 12month ski mountains like Mt. Hood. Itching real bad right now. Last edited by donm3ga; 05-05-2008 at 11:17 AM. |

Loveland is generally the first resort open and it is almost always the wrod. They open in October though, and by late November they often have a lot more snow. Maybe half the mountain open.
Wolf Creek by Thanksgiving is often 100% open with a 40-60" base. That place just gets hammered with snow. It's the best early season bet out there. |

A-basin usually challenges Loveland for the first resort to open. So either one of those resort would be a good bet.
But here a good article that you might find informative, this guy is pretty good. He knows numbers very well, everything is based in information from previous seasons. Quote:

Personally I have visited the Colorado rockies, but my first trip is in January and not November. That said I usually hit Vail, Beaver Creek, Cooper, LoveLand and Keystone. The best snow can be found in Vail, or at least the last two seasons the snow has been great there

I can't think of anywhere, even with Tony Crocker's list that is 100% open by mid November except Wolf Creek. It's not a sure bet, but 4 out of the last 5 seasons it has been. I would try to make your trip as last second as possible, as any place during that time can have squat.
