Default FreeRide World Tour Hospitality Package Trip Report

I have some unexpected time off and wanted to do something different. I had not ridden Europe in a while and I have really enjoyed Austria in the past. Long-story short, i decided to try out the FWT hospitality package so I could ride for a few days and get a good seat for the show.

It was really an amazing time. For less that $2k, I got 4 nights slope-side hotel, 3 days lift tickets, all breakfasts and dinners as well as a full day of backcountry riding with a local pro all to myself. I also got VIP tix for the event as well as full admission to the riders meetings, after parties etc..

The riding in Fieberbrunn was amazing and I love the small town Austrian vibe. The guide was great and not only took me everywhere around 4 peaks, he also critiqued my technique, which is fine in the resort but needed help in steep and variable conditions in the Alps.

I am not a fan-boy but it was great to meet so many folks from the tour. The meals were buffet and i just sat wherever. One morning it was next to Ralph Backstrom, another it was near Frankie Alisuag. In fact, I shared my ride from Munich with the announcers and camera crew. Everyone was cool and low key.

In addition, to all that, they comped me a t-shirt, hat and a North Face Down jacket!

Ironically, because the event was delayed a week due to whether, I was already home and did not get to see the event there but i was happy and weather issues are weather issues. We rode all around the Wildeseeloder course and it really wasn't safe until this past Friday. Wet slides were everywhere until the cold air came in early last week.

This is something brand new that they are trying and it was a great deal by my book. I am east coast so Munich was an 8-hour non-stop...just like my drive to Stowe.

Anyway, I am very happy and am thinking of hitting the Chamonix event next year.

Cheers!

you can watch the live feed on the fwt web site. The mens snowboard comp was pretty rowdy with lots of sluff and windslabs breaking free.

sounds like a great experience.
