best place around Denver?

I'll be in Denver from April 14h to 20th and I definitely wanna take that chance and bring my board.

First thought: winter park cause it's close to Denver and looks nice. But then I read some reports about Vail which is not too far... So what do you guys think is the best place? also considering snow conditions at that time. Is Winter Park fine or Vail worth the drive? Any other place? It would be great to find some famous Rocky Mountain powder, if that is even possible at that time... I just know the Alps since I'm from Germany.

BTW..What will be the road conditions on the way to Vail or anywhere else going deeper in the Rocky Mountains than Winter Park? I wanna get an rental car in Denver.

Better check closing dates.......

Winter Park and Vail close both on April 20th. I wanna shred until 19th.

No clue on road conditions. It could be 60 degrees or it could snow 3 feet.

@lincollegorge
any idea where I can check them ?

The way the weather is here, you won't have even the slightest clue about road conditions or riding conditions until a couple days out. Even then, the predictions can be completely wrong.

This. You won't know shit about road conditions or weather until the days leading up to your trip. Anything more than a week out is completely unreliable. Even a week out, the details will be vague. You'll know whether it's going to be clear or if a storm is coming, but if a storm is coming, the details won't be reliable. Those details don't iron themselves out until the 24-48 hours or so leading up to the storm and even then, several storms a year will turn out to be big disappointments or big surprises so always take the forecast with a grain of salt.

I'll be in SD for a few days before I go to Denver. I will check weather and road conditions and if it looks real bad I just stay in SD. What is a good website to check road condtions and weather for this area/ski resorts?

Regardless the conditions, what place do u suggest when I come to Denver? I mean which resort that is "around" Denver.

Big Foot 03-19-2014 02:27 PM

I use opensnow.com to monitor predicted snowfall. For road conditions I use the CDOT app on my phone which gives you details on delays and closures.

As far as where to ride I can't make any suggestions because I generally ride the wrong mountain at the wrong time.

x2 on the cdot mobile app.

best bet is to keep an eye on the weather and the resort pages. By then it could be real iffy or really rad.

isnowreport is also a good app, but by then may be pointless.
