Default Canyons, UT

I'm doing a Canyons trip in December for 6 days. How is the snow usually in December over there? Will it be worth the 6 day trip?

Anything I need to know about the resort? I know you guys won't give the best spots to ride at, but what kind of terrain do they have? How are the groomers and bowls and off-piste runs?

Thanks!

December is a crap shoot for any western area resort. Cross your fingers and pray Senor El Nino delivers early for Utah resorts.

I sure hope so... but Utah gets decent snow in December from what I read up on, but pow days are what I'm looking for.

If you r going to Utah and want a pow day hit Brighton or Snowbird. The Cottonwood canyons get more snow than the Park City resorts. Like rideinbend says it could be ok or u could be riding on a 30" base of mostly man made snow. You are better off waiting a few months.

Canyons is our only bet since we have an Epic Local Pass. We can always come back when it's better snow, but the reason my group is going is for a few birthdays. We go to a resort every year and chose Canyons this time. We'll just have to ride on whatever Canyons gives us, lol.

Historically, The Canyons really does not get going until mid-January. If I had to venture a guess it will be low tide there over the holidays. However, there are lots of fun zones to play around in... Check the trees between runs for log jibs, bmx style'd he'll tracks, etc.

You never know. I went out there early December several years back and got to experience the deepest Utah pow I have ever seen on any of my trips out there. The first 4 days were pretty crusty, but the last day we were there they got over 50" in less than 36 hours. We hit solitude the last day and it was incredible, but they struggled to get the blacks open the morning the dump ended. I recommend hitting Brighton and Solitude that time of year...can't stand Snowbird. Trying to plan a trip that time myself, but still trying to decide between Colorado, Jackson Hole, or Utah.

I start every season at PCMR. And you can catch some snow in December for sure, but earliest seems to be around December 15, and it's spotty.
