Vail Resorts Suspension

Was an epic day at the beav this morning, but had a run in with ski patrol. Ducked a rope into the Stone Creek Chutes too early, and bam ski patrol is waving me down. Went down and talked to the guys and handed over my pass. Was told I may be given a warning, but also may get 28 days. Anyone have a similar experience? What was your outcome? My dad's coming into town this weekend to ski and he's gonna be pissed if we can't ride Vail.

This is my first encounter with patrol at Vail Resorts

You will be lucky if they just give you a warning. I have seen them take the full season for ducking ropes into closed terrain. Stupid move on your part.

Very stupid, I didn't even know the terrain. I'm just glad I didn't try to run because I would have gotten stuck. I guess I never realized the consequences, definitely won't be doing that again.

Damn.
I almost got my pass pulled at Big White last weekend. We ducked some ropes into the Cliff bowls which was roped off due to "pending avalanche assessment". On the second try.... patrol was there and told us no can do.

He just gave a warning though; but said that was enough to pull the pass. Phew. That face was apparently stable AF but we had to go with what they said... that second run was going to be epic

So yeah... Fully closed areas.... don't do. Temporary ropes are ok if you know where you're going and what you're doing.

Damn, I was ducking the ropes at winter park last month repeatedly. There was a powder stash in the woods that would eventually lead out to the main run and the lift. But the powder was awesome in there. Deep enough that if you sat down, you couldn't stand back up. I was always told to play dumb and say you were lost. Will definitely reconsider this.

Only thing that really matters here is if you are spotted coming back onto the main run from trees they know are closed. I got a stern yelling at for that and given a warning at keystone recently. Unless the trees are roped off on a groomer it's not very likely you'll encounter patrol in the woods.

If you're going to duck a rope, you put your pass into an RFID blocking wallet first. Then if you get caught, you say you hiked up and don't have a pass. They can try to scan you (won't work with your pass in an RFID blocking wallet), but they can't legally search you or make you show ID. Vail resorts are on public land.

But don't duck ropes. That's dumb.
