another slc thread..sry guys

heading into slc this friday and im a little concern coz it looks most places doesnt have a lot of area open
our main destination was snowbird, brighton and solitude. (was at PCMR and Canyons last january)

any slc local can provide a quick rundown on wheres my best bet for this coming weekend? (12/16-12/18)

also i know canyon sports sells discounted tickets but just wondering if there are any alternatives that might be even cheaper?

Rent a car, drive down to Wolf Creek or Silverton...

Canyons Sports is the cheapest I think.

Snowbird is very steep and rocky, so it might not be so great right about now.

Brighton was actually pretty good today, fun little powder day. But you have to know where to go...

Snow is actually pretty good all around, just wax the shit out of your boards, and be on the look out for lurking shark fins waiting to strike.

Bummer about the awful timing - make the best of it though!

The GF rode Snowbird yesterday and had a blast(tram and summit are open), Brighton and Solitude have enough terrain open to make it worthwhile and everyone(in BCC\LCC) got about 5 inches of snow in the last 48 hours so that helped allot, just don't expect to ride any backcountry, rock gardens or trees while your here and you'll be fine.

or bring your rock board and helmet, say F it and grind that shit core shots be dammed

EDIT
For the BCC\LCC resorts the Lift House(Base of Big Cottonwood canyon by 7-11) is the cheapest but I don't think they start selling day tickets until all the resorts are at full price which they are not so WasatchMan may be correct.

QFT go there or Vegas if you want the snow. These are your best bets currently. Utah has ran out of snow maybe next time.

appreciate the quick responses wow...

yea this is our once a year trip that we usually do during jan or feb...but had to move it up earlier this season. so all of us are really nervous about the condition this early dec esp during whats looking to be a whimpy winter (at least for us in the mid west)

but yea looks like we heading to brighton friday then just gonna follow the snow hopefully more will drop.

Just in from Solitude

"Powderhorn II and Sunrise will be opening tomorrow, bringing the total to 6 lifts and 39 runs. With the last bit of snow we had the skiing is fantastic - even if you venture carefully off trail. I'm still skiing the groomer skis - not quite deep enough for the big guns. Summit Lift will be opening in the very near future as well."

Once summit lift opens up(and we get another foot of snow) I'm there but for me the big draw is HoneyComb canyon which seems to take FOREVER to open.

I was in SLC a couple weekends ago and did Brighton and Snowbird. Brighton was fun and seemed to have the most open runs. Snowbird was steep and rocky with hard packed snow. It wasn't as fun as Brighton (on that weekend). I'm not sure how the snowfall has been since then.

Like I said the groomers will treat you good and the surface is ok just don't go expecting face shots and epic tree runs(unless you have a rock board then screw it and ride closed runs at Brighton) and you'll be fine, oh and eat at the Red Iguana or Red Iguana 2 while in town for their insane Mole you won't be disappointed. At least the inversion is mostly gone and it doesn't look like L.A. in August anymore.
