This is what makes me worry a bit about venturing out on my own but I just can't keep letting these great days just go by.

The CAIC statewide forecast doesn't make it seem all that safe either.

Ha, if I didn't have this stack of kids to take care of... One more reason I wish I would've started riding when I was young and untethered!

Stay out of avalanche terrain right now. Period.

Quite a bit of new snow and it's supposed to get fairly warm this weekend. It's gonna be touchy.

Definitely more than a few areas I wouldn't even considering touching, even on the highly trafficked side of LL pass, right now.

Like CAIC says, "Conservative, cautious route finding and terrain selection are the best ways to avoid the problem."

Just don't be stupid it's not worth it. Only bonus is East Wall was not open so you might have that going for you.

The backcountry is going to be all about how warm it stays over night and how quickly it warms up in the day. If you see water at the top of the pass in the AM, it is probably not a good day to go out. Stuff needs to freeze. I wouldn't be surprised if it is too warm to be out there by 11am. The biggest worry out there is that with the persistent deep slab instability still lurking is that the west slides have a good chance to go to the ground. West slides are normally slow beasts but very powerful. They do tend to be easier to deal with. If it goes to the ground, it will not only be powerful but probably fast moving. Much higher consequence. It has just been a problematic year at best. We knew this was coming with all of the October snow fall and then the long dry spell. October snow is never a good thing.

The other problems are that where it is traditionally safer is not so good with this warm up. IE, in the trees. Yet the open bowls at Loveland have their problems too.

I'm about to leave the house here in a few min (hopefully before 9) for a couple of quick laps. If conditions aren't looking good and I have to turn back, at least I got a nice car ride out of it.
