Hey guys,
I think I finally convinced my wife to buy a place in CO and she really likes Winter Park for the family feel and I do as well. Out of all the spots I've researched it also seems to have the most reasonably priced homes. I'm looking at a town called Fraser right outside of WP. I'm just wondering if anyone has any info on the kind of town it is. Is it mostly snow bums? Students? Families? Tweakers? Any info will help. Thanks.

You will have all of those in most any ski town, Students, families and tweekers.

If it were me and I had the opportunity I would honestly look more southwest like Pagosa Springs, Durango etc. I'm kind of partial because I'm not too far from All the majors off I70 and I lived a few minutes from Loveland and Winter Park for a number of years. I also lived in Pagosa for a few years. I just liked the area more. The traffic on the way to the resorts isn't nearly as bad, the summer recreation is just as good and again the traffic isn't as bad. I don't have kids but there are internet searches that can tell you about the schools etc. Kids will get in trouble if they so desire to no matter where they live if you ask me.

This is my opinion though, and nothing more or less.

This is Steamboat Springs today. High visibility, weekend crowd...lots of fresh snow on the side and even on the runs. Because of the cold weather on the morning, a lot of the shady parts were icy on some parts, but on blues and blacks, so much powder, it was awesome even on my cheap-o Sims Quest.

Way too many skiiers, though. I hate how they are so cocky and think theyre the best. They keep scuffing my board when in the lines.

I was on Christie Peak and the first lift was horrendous, but go up o the Thunder lift and the line is scary short. Never go to the very bottom unless you're done for the day.

I don't have a GoPro but just an iphone with no case, so these are the best pictures i could take without risking water damage or dropping...

Todays visibility was tough and it was cold as hell. There was no crowd until now, at least its empty in the morning still for a couple hours or so. It is nice to get a few hours in before the lines fill up.

Oh and its snowing, probably a couple inches early on today....

Conditions are nice right now even if a tad cold. Spent the day hot lapping at Bert on Saturday. High temp for the day was -8 as it turned out. Felt a little better in the sun.

It's feast right now gang. So go get it. If this is anything like previous El Nino patterns it'll shut off on us for a few weeks suddenly. So enjoy it now. Hopefully the temps will warm up just a tad. I could live without the "dangerous" cold. Other than, that it is pretty great.

I know this is late but here was the slope report from yesterday at Steamboat Springs Resort when I went.

Fucking busy. Thunder lift was extremely long compared to how it was the last two days I boarded, excruciating amount of people in total, but luckily there was so much powder at the tops of the mountains and the blues because of the constant snow the whole previous day.

All the greens were icy as fuck during midday because of the amount of people and the cold weather, made it no fun for me to practice switch, so that's why I just stayed up at the blacks even if it meant me falling down a lot because of the cheap board I have not letting me able to link turns well in deep powder.

As everyone is saying, it's stupid cold. During the morning it was fine, just a normal day, but when it was about 1 pm, the wind really picked up; it was just a constant powerful breeze the whole time. On the Four Point lift (the very top), visibility sucked ass (but could still see a good distance), the coldness went through my gloves and literally froze my handwarmers. I ended up staying at the Four Point Lodge up there with the rest of the diehards and warmed up for 20 minutes before heading down the 30 minute slope. I would hang out at the blues for more enjoyability, but after seeing the lines I just said fuck it and hung out up at the hard lifts, even if I was underdressed. No line for those lifts.

Well that concludes my last day shredding at Steamboat...back to Oceanside and a 2:30 hour drive to Big Bear. At least there is some real snow...but nothing like CO...and I guess I won't be participating in this thread once I leave here...

No pictures, either. Too cold for my hands. They look almost identical to the ones I posted before.

It has been cold as a witches tittie up here. It has kept the snow fairly soft since there has been zero sunlight hitting it. Today the sun finally came out and you could see the ground in front of you. Haven't seen the mountains in the view in a while.

We get out early and get as far back as we can. Usually we get a lead on the crowd and have a couple hours to ourselves. By 1100 they make their way back to the far edges of the mountains and I come home....
