It was nice for my first few runs then all of Denver showed up. I was on
Y up for an hour. Yesterday was THE day. Long time locals rank it amongst the best ever. The sun and wind are out this afternoon so it will smooth and crust over on the backside..... Bluesy trees should be great. Yesterday there was not a single line on the backside that could not be straight lined raging down the mountain while screaming at the top of your lungs from the sheer excitement and overwhelming joy.....
This morning we got a quick downpour of fresh snow, about 1.5-2".... That's it for today. If their report of 9" was true yesterday then my dick is about 1/4" long....
Tomorrow there will be tons of fresh in the frontside and bluesy trees actually, wind is knocking the 8" off the tree limbs and no one has really hit up the trees regardless.
Yesterday was unexpectedly fantastic. I expected decent, but badly wind effected snow, brutal cold, and stupid wind. Instead, we found great snow, decent temperatures, and very little wind.
I went to Vail today. The lines were pretty bad in the back. Nobody was riding the stuff where the rope tow is. It was waist deep over there for my shortness. It was sooo nice to finally ride in snow over my knees. The last time I rode snow that deep was last season.
Vail was absolutely epic on Thursday morning, couldn't see my boots all day. Knee to Waist deep with faceshots all morning. There were some wind blown areas there were up above my stomach in the morning. Unfortunately they were in the flats of china bowl so I had to hike out, haha. Blue sky was ankle to knee deep pretty much all day. It was deeeeeeep out there. Was an awesome day for sure. Have a feeling Saturday is going to be an absolute shit show though (Fresh snow + Saturday + Super bowl on Sunday = every weekend warrior piling it on in one day). Glad I got my powder fix in on Thursday, probably my best day riding ever.
Yesterday was a shit show.... Most crowded it has been all season. Today should be the same.... Too bad they missed the real goods.... THursday there was no one around...
Ya yesterday was pretty busy at Vail....but still up there among my top 3 days ever. A lot of the bowls were choppy and tracked out but there was still plenty of untouched to be found on blue sky and the trees, just had to work a little harder to find it. Im kinda pissed I went on weds and fri and not thursday but still one of best days ever.
Breck and Vail look like an absolute mess today. Keystone and Abay on the other hand don't look too bad. Abasin apparently got 7 inches in the past day, nice surprise shot of snow for them, they definitely need it. Now that they have pali open, would have been a good day to go there.
I went to Keystone for a little bit today. It was nice and sunny with much improved conditions. I did not leave the front side, but dipped into the trees. I found some freshies. There was more snow than I thought. It was kinda crowded so I just got my fix and went home. I might actually leave the front side next Keystone visit.
Ugh fucking tradeshows and business bullshit. Tomorrow I go on the quest for pow, at least out of the tradeshow I gained access to a private snowcat on Vail Pass.
Just wait, in a few years your kid will be riding the back bowls alone. There is not a run on any of the mountains up here that my son wont do. I let him ride the backside alone now and bluesky unless it is a day like Thursday....
Kids are alot of fun once they get out of the learning stage.... 6 or 7. Being a responsible parent does suck sometimes though.
Regret not taking Thursday off of work to go ride, but still found GREAT snow on Saturday. We started by taking 3 laps on Poppyfields in China bowl... wide open, first tracks. Spent the rest of the day in the trees in Blue Sky, lapping Pete's for a while. At least 2 feet deep in most spots. I must have gotten stuck 30x yesterday and I am still sore today.
Hoping it snows this coming weekend as well (actually, hope it snows every day forever).
Looks like snow late Friday most of Saturday. Finally got to ride Breck yesterday and went on the quest for pow but it looks like the winds just blew everything off. Did get into some mid thigh stuff in the trees.
Went to Breck yesterday and immediately went to Imperial which was looking rough from the lift so I decided to hike up and definitely glad I did, dropped in to the best looking spot and got some ankle deep turns with some crust on top.
Sadly a lot of the runs had rocks and shit sticking out already. Park lane was real nice as usual though so good day overall.
Heres some pics, Im not using an image hosting site with them so your gonna have to click them, sorry.
All taken from the top after the hike. 2nd to last is the line I was about to drop into and the last pic is some of the tracks after the run.
It was nice. In some spots it was knee deep. I was able to get there near 9:am. It started to back up in Vail. It was one of my longest most vertical feet days.
The reports I heard said that 8" was bullshit. Unfortunately, you're gonna beat the next storm there. Supposed to get good snow Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning and hopefully light consistent snow through Monday.
