One thing about Sunday, if the snow comes in like predicted. Avalanches will be a very real problem. It'll be more like mid winter than spring. I don't think deep slab instabilities will be a problem. We have had a good freeze thaw cycle the past few weeks. Storm and wind slab will probably be a problem though. That is more than enough.
Something to consider.
6-8" of snow should be pretty fun. 12-20" and there will be areas that are very dangerous. Moderate winds will also drift snow into lee aspects making them mich deeper. Even if we only get 5" Watch out for that.
This type of weekend if it materializes worries me. Most people are thinking spring rules now and winter is looking to make a comeback. A lot of bad acccidents happen in this sort of cycle. Remember that and adjust how and what you ride accordingly.
Daddy speach is over. It should also be a really fun day on Sunday. So get after it.
I used to race bikes (both Mt and road) so am burned out on it... sort of. You can ride almost year round, so I made a mental decision to snowboard while I can. I will bike when the snow isn't good anymore (and on weekdays after work, of course). Variety is the spice of life.
Riding mountain bikes today. Never was or will be a racer. Did it a little in the late 80's early 90's. Just started riding again in the last 3 years. Not very good but I am having fun. Reminds me of splitboarding actually.
It looks like I will be at Bert on Sunday. If anyone is interested. All things are on the table from alpine lines to trees to just (if it is dust on crust) drinking beer.
If it snows like predicted one spot should be pretty rowdy and fun. Sustained 40 degree chutes in trees.
Going early to get home early. Evidently CDOT is threatening to close 70 due to snowfall. If that is the case 40 will close even quicker.
