Holy shit, NOAA is super bullish on this storm. They're projecting 22-36" by Wednesday afternoon for a certain resort that is horribly cold and windy. :yahoo:
Had my sister in law pick me up a GoPro Hero3 Black from Best Buy down in Florida, but it won't be here in time. They were sold out here in CO and online.
I saw some PDX cams that just looked like it was dumping pretty good. I think most of the West is getting a decent shot out of this system. Pretty sweet. Should be good over the next few days here.
This is my first season here in CO so I don't really know what to expect. I'm used to Tahoe weather and usually we don't consider it to really have started until the first 2' or 3' dump.
Doesn't really matter to me, the snow out here so far has already been of better quality that what I'm used to for the most part. Tahoe snow is usually pretty heavy and wet, and it doesn't get that cold there so it all thaws during the day and freezes at night. Out here the snow is a lot lighter and drier. Resorts in CA might report 600"+ of snow in a season but it's not of the same quality as 350" out here, or so it seems thus far.
I'll PM you if I know for sure I'm going up Thursday.
I always get a little nervous when forecasters start backpedaling, even slightly right before a storm. Usually the best indication of a storm is the direction of the fine tuning of the forecast just before the storm hits. Rarely do the forecasters readjust their amounts enough. If they start backpedaling, they usually don't backpedal hard enough. If they start bumping them up, the usually underestimate just how hard the dumpage is gonna be. Right now, they're dialing it back a little bit. The next two days are almost certainly going to be very, very good. I'm just no longer sure that this is gonna be the storm of the season like it was looking like it had the potential to be, which is honestly fine by me. Either way, this storm should kickoff a lot of good terrain opening up and this time of year, that's the most important thing to get out of storms.
Well, hopefully the backpedaling is incorrect. The snow stake at that terribly cold, windy place is showing 7" already. Tomorrow gonna be gooooood. :yahoo:
The only time I've been out is 4+ days after it's snowed...now I have long work days until Saturday again. Damnit!
I did find a ton of fresh pow lines at Monarch the other day. Tons of lines between the trees, can't believe no one hit them. Really cool little resort and the people there were awesome.
My buddy was up from Texas and he's a badass skateboarder but has never snowboarded and dropped his glove on a black diamond run off the lift. LOL...I watched him slide on his butt to get it and told him "if I got your glove, you wouldn't have learned your lesson" haha. If anyone is going to be at Monarch NYE let me know, shooting a video part for a skate/long/snow movie.
Brecks sitting in a cloud and has been all day. Easily 5 plus around town probably more up on the mountain. Storm of the year? Eh. Storm of early September? Definitely.
I can't make it out tomorrow, Thursday and Friday are looking like a maybe for me. Hopefully we'll see some good pics posted from guys who can make it out tomorrow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there will be some good powder left for me to ride later in the week.
Anyone plan on riding WP/MJ or LL Thursday or Friday?
