Just popped in to see what was up in here and how your slopes are looking. Things are revving up for the east coast next week - huge cold shots and looking like a nice system coming through by the end of the month. Hopefully east and west are in good condition by December.
I'm planning on going Friday and Saturday. They have decent snowmaking and grooming so usually, their WROD is just a touch better than other options open at that time. Certainly better than Keystone. Not to mention less crowds than anything open on the Epic Pass.
I was just up at Loveland and the top section of their WROD was pretty much a sheet of ice.
Yeah, I am obviously expecting the WROD, but if the snow is consistent and I can get an edge in it and there are not too many people all over the place, it could, possibly, knock me out of this ridiculous state I am in right now.....:crazy2:
I have been stupidly checking the Copper webcams and they all seem to be down, except Superbee (which won't even be open). The manmade snow is obviously not my favorite... but I miss feeling the G-foces of a good carved turn on snow.
Was just at abasin, packed with ski race teams that should be at copper. sitting at Woodward now, copper looks like hell, keystone does too.... The snowsliding was fun.
you weren't looking too close then. SMS from Vermont was there. SSCV was there. Park City was there. Only coaches had their team swag on...... I knew and talked to 3 of them, one was a snowboarder with 3 kids along with him.
Two guys got caught in an avalanche outside of Crested Butte. I believe it was yesterday. The size of the avalanche was classified as an R2 D1.5. Big enough to kill. From what I have heard is that they are okay. Would not be surprised to find out they got pretty beat up. Worth stating a simple fact in Colorado. There is an avalanche death recorded in every month of the year in this state. If there is enough snow to ride, there is enough to slide. So be thinking about avalanches whenever you are going for turns outside them ropes.
Glad that it was a close call. It would be nice if that is all we hear about this year.
Info on it is posted at the Crested Butte Avalanche Center's website and Facebook page.
Yes, it's called the Typhoon Rule and a lot of what happens in the Bering Sea affects our weather later down the line. It was looking like a mild Nov for the eastern US before Nuri came along. Things are about to get wild.
There is some snow in the 12z GFS forecast. I just want some decent snow before my Dec 11th trip. I am kinda terrified im gonna be on WROD the whole time with my wife who has never snowboarded before. I just dont want a cluster fuck for her. Learning how to snowboard is not fun... learning how to snowboard on WROD with massive crowds would be even worse.
There's no real indication of any chance in sight either. There's a chance of a pattern change in mid-November, but no one's too confident in that. Could be an extended period of WROD.
I ran into a guy I know today who manages construction projects. They actually contract with a private contractor to do custom weather reports so they can manage the construction accordingly. He said the weather outlook for November was very dry.
