It's gonna have to start dumping soon and often just to be an average year at this point. Sadly, it's looking more and more like last year extended. Just a few months ago, everyone was hopeful because no matter what, this season couldn't possibly turn out as bad as last season, right? Right??? Not so fast...
Note to those looking to make a CO snowboarding vacation this season: if you haven't committed non-refundable money, you might wanna start looking elsewhere.
NO SHIT!!! I've got 1300 wrapped up in non refundable $$ That pic of A-Bay makes me want to PUKE!! I have a season pass at the bay and already paid for a house in Breck for a fucking week. Not to mention I've spent a shitload on new gear, I even braved fucking black Friday to score some new gloves for me and the girlie. I did get some sick ass Burton gloves with liners for 35 bucks marked down from 80....but still FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!!! SNOW YOU BASTARD MOUNTAIN!!!!
It aint looking good so far this year, I planned to have two trips in already but canceled them. Sure hope we get snow by the middle of January as I have a week long non-rufundable trip to copper planned.
Man, it's getting ugly. The unsettled weather for next week looks like a wet fart at best. I hate to say it, but it is starting to look like a repeat of last year. Which is practically unheard of out here, but I guess it can happen. I am already looking at a 3-5 day road trip for next week to go powder hunting...
haha, word. I got all new gear except boots....board, bindings, jacket, pants, bucket, gloves, etc plus the RMSP+ pass. And here I am looking at bare mtns.
F*ck it though, I havent been out in 6 yrs (bc AZ blows) so I'm riding all season, even if its man made. A bad day out here is better than a good day back east.
Gotta keep it in perspective... for people planning trips, yea look elsewhere. But for people who live where they ride... ANY riding is better than no riding.
I moved from MI so even what A-basin has open now (2 runs top to bottom?) is better than the best day in MI.
I hear that, I'm from Nebraska so yeah, whatever is better then nothing...Fuck it, anyone got a rock board for cheepies Maybe I should have snagged that NS with the core shot for 100 bucks, could you imagine the look on the locals faces if I was bashing a Revolver over rocks and not caring...that would be soooo core brah
So I win a week at a resort in Breckenridge for the first week of December. Finally, after almost 20 years of riding, I get a chance to shred Colorado...and this is what I get!?
Fuck this. Suppose to be in Beaver Creek Dec 15-22. If this storm the end of the week dumps in Tahoe like it's predicting I'm changing my flight to Reno and heading there instead.
Ski school instructors, food service people, and small business owners are all really hurting right now. At least Dew tour will bring people regardless of whether there are enough slopes to accommodate them. We need a good dump so bad...
People in the winter who plow snow for a living bitch about how they're going to make ends meet when it doesn't snow. Tax payers bitch when it snows so much that they have to pay the snowplowers overtime.
Ya, hard to hold a job when the tourists don't come. Bad seasons make me appreciate them more. Maybe I won't spray them so much. Hey tourists there is more than one reason to visit, we got legal weed! Can't have that in Utah.
I rode Keystone today, it was quiet, but Ski Patrol looked very busy. I saw them five times with the meat wagons taking people off the mountain. The conditions are tough and hard, people are getting hurt a lot. However there is only one no jumping sign and no traffic fences on the runs. Often the no jumping sign is unguarded. They are almost done with the parklane jumps and the Schoolmarm side is not so bad since it is fresher and in the sun more. They have Peru, Ranger, a magic carpet, Zuma, the gondola and the summit X open. Summit X is closed during the week. I am finding a lot of nice rollers to hit.
Looking at Lake Dillon is scary. There are islands I have never seen before. On Swan Mountain Road you can see a lot of an old road that was flooded when the damn was built. I have been thinking about taking my dog for a walk there.
Telling you people not to come here is one thing telling tourists not to is another don't misconstrue those two.
I'm waiting to see if the old houses in Old Dillon will show up the lake is so low. Also might try to see if we can drive around the lake on the old road I can see most of the road under the water. If I die doing this remember me!

SNOW! Yes, I said it. SNOW! SNOW! SNOW! It's going to SNOW! Yaaahhhooo! Ok, so I'm not promising Snowmaggedeon Part 2, but there is a good likelihood of snow on Monday and the pattern *could* shift to a snowier one by the second week of December. This is a lot more optimism than I've had for a while, so while I'll try not to get carried away, right now I'm happier than a witch in a broom factory.
A big west-coast storm will pump tons of moisture from Tahoe northward and northeast from Wednesday (today) through Sunday. Areas in the path of this moisture will measure the snow in feet, but snow levels will stay pretty high through Sunday, so the snow will be on the heavier side and lower elevation resorts in the west will see a rain/snow mix. Little pieces of storm energy will eject out of the main storm over the west coast and head northeastward, but these will just brush Colorado. One of these little pieces of energy will bring an inch or two of snow to Colorado on Friday night in the far northern mountains, but this is nothing to get excited about.
The strongest piece of the main west-coast storm will head east on Sunday night and Monday and should bring decent snow to many Colorado mountains, primarily from Aspen north to I-70 and the Wyoming border. The best time for snow looks to be from Sunday night through Monday night, with the cold front passing late Sunday night or Monday morning. It's a bit too early to know exact snow amounts and I think the American GFS model is forecasting the storm to be too strong and too far south, so I don't expect to see the amounts the GFS is promising. But as I said yesterday, a good 2-4 or 3-6 inch snow is likely, and there could be more in favored areas. Here's what the storm looks like on Sunday night:
6 inches of snow would help open stuff up, especially if its followed by a real storm in the next 2-3 weeks. hopefully the 2nd weekend in dec is a good one.
