Default Snowboarding clinics

Hi all,

I am new to the board and am looking forward to some intersting disucssion.

I wanted to know if anyone knows of some good snowboarding clinics that will help me improve. I've been riding for about 2 years now (though its only about 5-7 days per season, since i am stuck "deep in the heart of texas"). So far I can make it down blues, and am hoping to move up to the blacks this season. Also, I havent been to the park yet. I'd like to learn how to do some jumps and ride rails, etc.

I've found some skiiers clinics, but nothing for snowboarding. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

The best clinic I know of is to move to Colorado, California, Utah, or Wyoming. Preferably in the mountains where they get snow.

What kind of clinics are you looking for? How old are you? Every resort has lessons availible on a daily basis. There are private and group lessons. There are freestyle camps. What do you want?

Being far away from regular places to ride makes it difficult for sure. One thing you could think about if you have the time and the money for it is to go to a snowboard camp. Here at Mt. Hood, we have the Timberline Lodge camps, High Cascades Camp and Windells. If you are an adult, the Windells programs are good because they have adult only camps. Typically they will take a week and get you from a beginner to an advanced free rider who can start venturing into the park to hit small jumps and boxes. The freestyle camps focus totaly on park and pipe.

Now if you check with resorts closer to you, many ski and snowboard schools offer clinics during the season. Where i work (Mt. Hood Meadows) we have full day and multi day clinics that can be tailored to your individual needs. Keep in mind, these are not cheap but a full day of one on one with a certified instructor can make a huge difference.

If you want more info about what is offered around Mt. Hood with the summer camps, let me know and I will post the links.

I think my goal this season is being able to ride blacks and hopefully extreme terrain. I'd also like to learn to hit some jumps and be able to ride rails. From a more long term perspective, I think I am interested in becoming an all mountain rider. Although I'd love to be good in the park and on the pipes, realistically, i dont think I can expect to get good unless I practice a lot more.

I am 28.

I've taken group lessons before and enjoyed them. Also, I took some workshops at crested butte, which are restricted to 4 people (but I never had more than 2 inlcuding myself). Private lessons seem to be super expensive...I've always been tempted to do something like the workshops at crested butte because its restricted to a small group.

The ski camps I found seem to be weeklong trips that where you are divided into small groups and have instructors teach you particular skills. Plus they videotape you and point out areas where you can improve. They seemed a lot cheaper than getting private lessons for the same amount of time. Is something similar available for snowboarding?

Do you think I should just stick with lessons and not try and find a camp? The camps just sounded more economical.

Stick with your lessons, dont worry about the camp, practice, practice, practice and you will be riding the blacks and blues no problem.
